Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Now that the dust is settling, what did you think of the new location of the main stage?
I heard mixed reviews from folks all weekend. Personally, I liked the shorter walks (and loved having our 'dedicated' gate to/from High Field) but really thought it was much more crowded than the previous site.

I did notice the one area that sloped away, as mentioned. But they may turn the stage slightly.

It was pretty crowded in the back, where I like to set up. Having ALL the restrooms at the front and the Lumni lounge (where we always went for the short beer lines) was pretty annoying. We ended up on the BRB side Sunday.
I really liked the bowl though. You could be pretty far back and still see the stage. I couldn't see the stage from most places at the race track, even fairly far forward, so I was looking at screens pretty much the whole time. So I really like that. But we kept looking for a place back far enough that there was plenty of room. There just wasn't any. Across the path on the main stage the acoustics were pretty bad.
Wandering around in the crowd behind the soundstage was a little challenging, but there was always an empty chair around to take a rest in!

Vendors were much more sparse. My friend asked me to find him some glass, but no such thing present as in years past. Also, disturbingly few stoner snacks, er, deserts. Someone with a donut stand could have printed money. Only one coffee vendor meant no caffeine for me in the mornings. Food felt more carnivalish this year and less local/healthy. I thought the beer choices were very much limited compared to years past. I liked that they had vendors out near Garcia forest.
It definitely felt more intimate this year and I had an unmitigated blast. Not good or bad, just different.

I found glass by asking a vendor if he had any. He did. It just wasn't out front or visible. I also got a hilarious story from his wife(?) about how she accidentally flushed hers down a toilet.

That being said, I'm thinking this was my last Lockn...or, at the very least, I won't get tickets till I see the full lineup and its going to have to be really good to get me on board.
I liked the layout except the sheer number of people packed together made the layout harder to travel. The VIP viewing section at the main stage was jammed shoulder to shoulder almost to the beer tent. I understand how little sympathy one would get for complaining about VIP, but that is specifically what I pay a premium for. Every other year, getting away from a-holes ruining a set was as easy as taking a few steps in either direction, this year, it was so crowded I was almost guaranteed to be near a few asshats. From late afternoon on, one would have to exit the VIP main viewing area and walk completely around the showfield. Trying to cut thru the middle was an obstacle course not worth the time. Why they didn't rope off a small walkway in the middle of the showfield is beyond me.
I didn't have any problems finding a suitable space at BRB except for JRAD, but I knew it was going to be like that. The viewing platform for BRB in the VIP section was nice but worthless to me.
My walk from camp was longer than last year, but I didn't mind that since it seemed to be better for everyone else.
It's just becoming more effort than pure fun. I'm not the type who can sit for any entire set, I am an active participant. Had the weather been like last year, it would have been even worse with these crowds (assuming the numbers would be the same given hotter weather). I'm also losing faith with a majority of these festival goers. I couldn't believe the amount of drunks, speed freaks, and talkative folks who had no interest in connecting with the music/bands. Those who were just dancing and smiling were far and away the minority. The amount of trash left over each night was also disturbing.
I need to find the thread to talk about the sets themselves. I'm in agreement with most on that one.
I heard alot of talk about peace, love and music, but saw more borish, disrespectful, and incapacitated partiers. I know I sound like an old man, but the truth, and I owe it to Lockn for getting me there, is that I am a small to mid sized festival person. The effort to enjoyment ratio is so much closer, the personal space is still there, and the music is just as good for a lot less cost.

I didn't find the GA areas overly crowded, and the No Chairs sign worked well. I saw them enforce the No Stupid Totems rule but they missed a few flags--but the cameras didn't.
I question the design of having an entrance and facilities down front.
Being on slopes saved the day. The flat field is a non-starter.
One serious defect was having the main show field exit through the Relix crowd.

As for size, I think the number was 15,000 and they want 25,000. They can make another 5000 work in the existing lay-out with some tweaks, and are examining if/how to go with 10,000.
I agree that VIP viewing areas should be comfortable and prime, as the VIP gate is important to make the fest work.
