Back in the day (before Lockn'), I used to do a rock crawling trip every year in October, hosted as a fund raiser by the Tidewater 4WD club. They limited it to 200 jeeps (mostly jeeps), and for two days we would just trail ride and rock crawl all over Oak Ridge Estates.
That was a really fun time. This Overland Expo thing just sounds like a crappy marketing event. "Classes"! LOL. No mention of trail riding / rock crawling at all. 
From 2003. Good times! Will probably never happen again

Must be back when Holland owned it. I don't know anything about the new event except I think they had some driving and trail riding.
What I find funny is that the show the farm with 20,000+ in tents but they sell about 500 tickets.
Anyway, I say anything that can make our guys some money and keep it going, is fine with me.

Hey, Idea. If we ever need to give ideas to help them make the farm pay. Big honking vintage car and swap meet. Anyone else ever been to Carlisle? Vintage cars, parts and accessories for acres and acres over a long weekend. Thousands of booths. Similar to Hershey, but more of a sale venue. Lots of booth rents and entry fees. Carlisle is an east coast destination mecca for old cars. Central VA could definitely do that.
