Long drive from Knoxville, TN back to Richmond, VA today....highlight was a Christmas gift CD - Man in Black, Johnny Cash Live in Denmark. (1971) he's the guitarist's guitarist. there's also a NPR show about him from c.1990 on you tube. I had the pleasure of seeing him in a bar shortly before he died; got his autograph on a cassette tape cover! Started the day with Jerry Garcia Band 5/23/1991 - The Warfield, SF, CA Set 1: 5. Lazy Bones (Hoagy Carmichael cover) 7. Deal (Jerry Garcia song) Then on to RR Earth 8/9/2015 - Burlington, VT 1.Grandfather Mountain And now I'm stuck in traffic, but that's ok...Warren Haynes with RR Earth 8/9/2015 Friday I purchased the new David Bowie CD Blackstar....didn't get around to listening to it until today. It is a Bowie oddity (with more of a jazz feel) and I will need to give it several more listens to before placing judgment. That said, Track 2 has one of the best song titles I've heard in many moons - 'Tis a Pity She Was s Whore. Buy the CD (versus download) as the CD liner note/booklet is also a treat...black glossy ink printed on a black matte paper. Omg. Motorhead? Used to weird me out completely as a child, like worse than ozzy. It made me think of eating babies or something. Many years ago in San Diego the street kids were into it. The kids with bones hanging on their necks and they had a very distinct smell. Kids that probably would train hop today. I saw a video about motorhead they were kind of just older and mellowed, but who knows.

Danny Gatton "Elmira street". He is (sadly, was) the best guitarist out there. The style is rockabilly/surf/rock and roll but with a psychedelic edge at times.
Then, wanting some jam band, John Coltrane "My Favorite Things"

Listening to the Yarn show from last night...
My wife tells me this morning, while we are discussing the Dead and Co. touring plans for this year. "You know, if Dead and Co were playing close to us and Yarn was also playing, I think I might choose Yarn." Of course this is a conclusion I had already come to, as I would not have gone to Dead and Co. in DC if we had not already had tickets before Yarn announced their show that night.

There's an Elmira Street in my hometown. Named because eventually it will take you the back way to Elmira NY. The same one the bank examiner wants to get home to and spend Christmas with his family in It's a Wonderful Life.

start here--but he's great in the studio, and well known for that. for being old school hollow body guy (played Elvis's guitarist Scotty Moore's guitar) he likes technology and installed a tape loop in the guitar so he could play along with himself==like those laptop guys today.

Very nice, puf.
I've been listening to all three nights of PhilRAD, including night two on a three-hour round trip. Made that less painful, lemme tell you. All I have left is Set II from NYE proper. Starts out great, just gets greater. I can see what all the fuss was about. Nice AUDs, too.

Startng at the begining* with Space Oddity (or Man of Words/Man of Music if you insist) and progressing from there. I figure The Man Who Sold the World, Hunky Dory and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars are today. Tomorrow will bring more.
*Yes, I am not counting "David Bowie". It isn't where I started, Space Oddity was, and it is more a David Jones than Bowie album. Proto Bowie where he is trying to figure out who he is even more than the rest of his body of music. Plus I just don't like it.

I think I just heard it on YouTube, the David bowie song, it was awful. Got a thing against whores? I'm positive they could do a better tune than that. God bless bowie but when was his last hit, 1985? Or the brief come back remix of under pressure? So I thought of George Michael. China girl into I want your sex. I thought Elton did space oddity. Wrong. I can't believe it.
