Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
I saw Krasno with his band, with Marcus King opening, and they did lots of Dead, ABB and the like. Then they were at Lockn last year. Since JGB is a lot of covers, then Lettuce covering JGB covers gives them a lot of freedom to interpret, and from what I gather, they can do that. Dead & Co welcome Derek and Susan--could be either night--and they close the first set with an epic 16 minute Deal. John and Susan trade off vocal responsibilities on the verses, then John and Derek trade ripping solos, complete with an insane guitar duel. Audience is stoked. They bring it way down, then build and build with Susan, John, Bob and whoever else doing some vocal improv on the "Don't you let that deal go down" outro. The crescendo is contagious, the crowd a turbulent sea of hands in the air and bodies moving in time to the beat. Oteil dances and smiles as he plays. Mickey chews gum while he plays. Bill looks angry but keeps a steady beat. Chimenti is nearly motionless but playing some amazing stuff. Crowd temporarily forgets how epic Lockn' '15 was and collectively says "This is the best Lockn' EVER!!!" And then we all enjoy the set break, glad to actually have a chance to breathe after that fierce musical onslaught.
