There was a novel written some years ago called Gilligans Wake. Each chapter is kind of a rambling autobiography of each character in the show. Worth a read on a rainy day if you can find it at the library.
She was a topic of discussion yesterday at workDawn Wells, the actress who played Mary Ann on the CBS sitcom "Gilligan's Island," died Wednesday at the age of 82 in Los Angeles due to COVID-19.
Ok not a musician but for us men of a certain age, the prevalent object of our after school wishful thinking. Ginger was supposed to be the sexy one, but all of us found Mary Ann to be far hotter.
Ginger, BTW, is the last living actor from GI.

Follow up on the Mick Bolton notice, if I have the story right, Queen opened for Mick Bolton's band..............We're talking Mott the Hoople, one of my all time favorite bands. Mick had just a short stint with Mott the Hoople, including the tour where Queen was up and coming and opened for them, but Mick went on to do several other interesting things after that big tour. I was not really aware of his musical journeys, but glad he had some fun with music, rest in peace now, and for anyone interested:

Phil Spector. What an amazing guy and top deck weirdo. But it was his Wall of Sound--not the Dead's later machinery--that changed rock music from simple combo recordings to the rich tapestries we enjoy all day, every day. Like moving blues from limited and boring gut string acoustic to electric. Violins? A chorus? Microphones in a bass drum? Madness!

Chick Corea
It is with great sadness we announce that on February 9th, Chick Corea passed away at the age of 79, from a rare form of cancer which was only discovered very recently.
Throughout his life and career, Chick relished in the freedom and the fun to be had in creating something new, and in playing the games that artists do.
He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, and a great mentor and friend to so many. Through his body of work and the decades he spent touring the world, he touched and inspired the lives of millions.
Though he would be the first to say that his music said more than words ever could, he nevertheless had this message for all those he knew and loved, and for all those who loved him:
“I want to thank all of those along my journey who have helped keep the music fires burning bright. It is my hope that those who have an inkling to play, write, perform or otherwise, do so. If not for yourself then for the rest of us. It’s not only that the world needs more artists, it’s also just a lot of fun.
“And to my amazing musician friends who have been like family to me as long as I’ve known you: It has been a blessing and an honor learning from and playing with all of you. My mission has always been to bring the joy of creating anywhere I could, and to have done so with all the artists that I admire so dearly—this has been the richness of my life.”
Chick’s family will of course appreciate their privacy during this difficult time of loss.

I hate clicking on this thread and I can't bring myself to "like" the news even though it's just an acknowledgment.
when my local radio show opens with three songs in a row by the same person, I assume he's dead. usually is.

Lawrence Ferlinghetti, aged 101. Inspiration to many a San Francisco songwriter, plus had the best bookstore in North Beach. I saw him once in this exact spot.

The one-time head of product development at Philips Electronics, Ottens, 94, passed away in the Netherlands on Saturday, according to the NRC Handelsblad newspaper. He oversaw the creation of the cassette recorder as an alternative to cumbersome reel-to-reel tapes.
The music recording and playback format, which hit its peak in the '80s, led to ubiquitous portable music listening – it was smaller and more convenient than 8-tracks – and endless sharing of mixtapes among friends and romantic partners, both present and potential.
It was always important to curate the songs properly and give the mix a snappy and thoughtful – or humorous – title, such as "For a Sentimental Lady" or "Wild Night is Calling."

Evidently, mixtapes maintain a place in many music lovers' hearts. When I asked some friends on Facebook if they had any mixtapes and would take pictures of them, I was overwhelmed. Looking at them "is like a '90s time capsule," one said.
