Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
Thanks Worfrat, I have read this before and have spent hours meditating on it. One theme that really resonates with me is the Bell's symbolism of having rung (played the music) the Declaration of Birth, Liberty and Freedom...etc., and how overtime we lose our way (give up our Liberty or have it taken from us) and we need to hear the Bell ring to find our way back. The Bell is cracked but hopefully has one good ring left, and God help the child who has to ring this Bell again, for that would mean we are in grave peril of losing all our freedoms. I see us now inching closer to being this child as the government continues to strip away our Liberty (i.e. National Defense Authorization Act, NSA, Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration, ....) all in the name of "protecting you" (Agenda 21 and The New World Order). We need to roll away the dew (have a rebirth) and listen to what the Bell originally rang. Not that this is the only theme in these mind expanding lyrics. Please note: This forum is in no way officially associated with Lockn' Festival or its promoters.

For everyone else, if you've never checked out David Dodd's Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics page, I urge you to do so. Always a good read.

Oddly (or perhaps not) I stumbled across the The Complete Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics at my local library. Any deadhead should spend at least a few hours with that book. That website you linked is fascinating - thanks!

Hey sneake! Although you graciously withdrew yourself from eligibility, what would have been yours?

Honestly, I'm not sure I could give a straight answer myself. There are so many different facets to their lyrics, sometimes your "favorite" can depend on your mood.
I admit, I am terribly attached to Fire On the Mountain. If pressed at the moment, I might got with:
Long distance runner, what you standin' there for?
That line brings great joy to my heart, can't exactly say why.

"Sunlight splatters, dawn with answers, darkness shrugs and bids the day goodbye."
and
"Talk about your plenty, talk about your ills. One man gathers what another man spills"
We're all here because we're not all there
