First time out this year. Flying in from San Francisco to Charlottesville on Wednesday. Need transportation from hotel near airport to venue on Thursday. What is the best option. We will be returning to the airport on Monday for an afternoon flight back out.

rent a car. There may be a special shuttle of some form set up. I would think hiring a driver--even a cab--will cost more than 4 days rental.
Your parking at Lockn will be part of your ticket.
Missing that flight Monday will be expensive. Sitting in line in a cab on Thursday will be expensive. And it's an hour one way from C'ville to Lockn.
Better get the car now, too.

I am looking for shuttle passes for Friday-Sunday. They have informed me they are sold out. If anyone has passes and wants to get rid of them let me know.
They informed me that you could still get on the shuttle for those days. You have to be at the last pick up, The Holiday Inn at the appointed time and it will be first come first serve. The only rub is getting back.... you take a chance the last bus is full. Maybe not a thing, but something for me to stress about anyway.

If you are a risk taker, and travel light, you might be able to find a ride back to C-ville once you get to Lockn, or hitch-hike out before the gate.
The other way--C'ville to Lockn-- might be harder.

In 14 we did the Lynchburg shuttle and the last one out was always really fullI am looking for shuttle passes for Friday-Sunday. They have informed me they are sold out. If anyone has passes and wants to get rid of them let me know.

I'm not sure yet of the details of exactly what is being discussed here regarding transportation connections etc., but anyone stuck to go north on Monday after missing shuttles... I'm enjoying D&Co with no stress Sunday night, get a good night's sleep, and heading north mid-morning on Monday (towards Maryland), so anyone who can't get their most desired shuttle north, can take note of me or any folks online here heading their direction.
My own plans are unlikely to change except for any unforeseen health or family matters; I'm headed up US 29 on Monday. I could certainly consider going by some location on the way. I just can't guarantee any specific timeline outside of my control. I'm open to bartering and karma.
