You know, my first show my buddy's van broke down a mile from the stadium. I was like: welp, nothing we can do about it now, might as well have a good time. Just yesterday a buddy who went with us was asking me how I was so unconcerned despite the fact that we even (in his mind, a mistake) dropped. I said, hey it wasn't my problem - it was the driver's family car, we had permission to use it, worse comes to worst they'll come get us and by that time we'll be straightened out, and he's the only one who can get in any potential trouble. What, me worry?
Kinda the same as a show in 1993. I got busted but released with an order to appear with ticket in hand and time to get to the show before Steve Miller even went on. No point in dwelling on it, and anyway if they were gonna actually do anything they never would have let me go in the first place. I think a lot of people just panic and don't think deeply enough when shit goes sideways. That and I have a Scarlet O'Hara-level ability to put off thinking about things until it's absolutely necessary. Tomorrow is another day, after all.
I occurs to me now that insurance might have covered it if I had alerted authorities at the time it happened. No one wants to be the guy who called the cops at a festival, though.
But that's not why I'm resurrecting this thread. I'm doing it because we had it inspected on Tuesday and for the second year running it didn't need a damned thing. The interior is all falling apart, the trunk doesn't open from the outside, it's been pooped in, and has 180k miles. Runs like a dream and still gets at least 39 mpg.
