I felt Bob's late night Saturday with Lettuce doing JGB showed on Sunday. He seemed a little off and there were multiple instances of "Bobby when, if ever, will you get the words to Truckin right.
My favorite segment was Terrapin to Ripple Sunday evening to close Lockn 2018.

I was up close in the VIP viewing area and just really had a blast. The setting (tempurature, festival, moon, fans, etc) were all top notch. My buzz was great and the people around me were awesome. Quality fans always add to the vibe (if you were in Mexico you know what I'm talking about). Some single tour stops don't always have the best or most deadicated fans.
Sat I thought had really good energy, and the pace/tempo was better than a lot of nights. I thought Mayer was on fire. Drums/Space > TOO was exceptional. Overall a really solid show. Passionate playing and vocals. It's like they knew they had a responsibilty to kick the festival party in overdrive and they delivered.
Sunday was really unique with Branford and that was a lot of fun, and something I'll never forget. I think the majority of the 2nd set was on fire with him. But, I agree that Bobby had a off night and he seemed annoyed with his rig/sound both nights. Althea is almost always a highlight for me but I thought that version was lacking energy. Overall the first set just seemed a little clunky.
Rarely do you get a perfect Dead show, and neither of these were perfect, but damn did I have a great time dancing with everyone. The saturday night show, followed by the JGB tribute will go down as one of the most memorable nights I've had at a concert or festival

I guess I'm lucky that is the only DeadCo shows I've seen, so I can't compare.
I thought the set list mix was outstanding. Got some favorites; got some rarities; got some interesting and different combinations.
Not being a fan of space/drums, I liked the way they kept them short--enough to be interesting to me but before they got tiresome and annoying. Of course, those who like those things would want more.
Although Mayer is an outstanding guitarist (and as someone noted, band leader) he doesn't have the Jerry sound, which is a little more flowing, softer edges, rounded corners. He spends too much time on the top frets and Jerry's talent, to me, lay in what he did all up and down the neck and especially at the low end. I think Russo is the same way as Mayer, and that John K has Jerry's sound down better. Nonetheless I liked having him there.
Kreutzman is the one driving the bus and I have really honed in on that since the early Lockn's.
Oteil is a great replacement for Phil. An improvement.
Bobby took on a lot more lead as well as vocals, and did well. The few flubs are part of the act and I'd be disappointed if there weren't any--like seeing a ice hockey match with no fights.

I think both nights were definitely "festival sets". At times it seemed like they were trying to fit as many hits in as possible as opposed to getting into any kind of a flow, but thats what you'd expect at a festival. You could tell there was some rust/effects of being out of their normal element (shorter set up time, shorter set break) but For the most part everything was well played, sure Bob had his screw ups but that is part of the show. I thought the sound was a little funny on the first night, the drums seemed way too loud. Though that could have just been where I was standing/where my brain was standing that night. The Marsalis set was awesome, he fit in perfectly with the music. It wasn't a Santana effect where he just sort of hid in the corner and did his thing when called upon. Nor did he try to outshine or overshadow anyone else, it added a perfect touch to the songs.
One last note, to anyone complaining about Bob's screw ups: what he did this weekend (Saturday especially) was pretty impressive. The guy is 70 years old, his day started at 6PM with the meters, a break for TTB, followed by basically 3.5 hours of non stop playing with Dead and Co. (15 minute set break+10 minute drums and space aside). Then to top it off with a good hour with Lettuce. Now sure, for some of Lettuce and The Meters he was sort of up there just noodling and not taking any lead role, but the man was basically on the stage from 6PM-2AM. I've seen Bob on his really bad nights (drunk, disinterested, in slow motion all night) and this was nothing close to that.
Bottom line is, its 2018 and we're still seeing live Grateful Dead music performed by the original members over two nights at a 30,000 person festival. The guys are still into it enough to play their own sets and sit in with others. What more can you ask for?

Indeed.
If they put John K out there with Phil, we'd be talking about 3 night stands at RFK stadium.

But there were times when the singing stopped and where you would usually hear Jerry starting to soar, I was thinking that each musician was waiting for the other to take a turn, but then see Mayer playing away, but he was lost in the mix.
Thoughts? (It wasn't just the DeadCo set, but others also.)
Does anyone here know how the sound works? Is one Lockn guy doing all the bands? Do they each have their own sound guy?
Crickets and cicadas sing... A rare and different tune...

First, they cut out the Not Fade Away chant. It goes straight from them leaving stage to when Branford comes back out.
Second, wow I really liked John Mayers singing on Terrapin Station and Brokedown Palace.
