But I had signed up through VDH and Sentara and qualified as 1b, and got a call for an appointment on 2/21 for 2/23 for first shot, about 4 weeks after I registered. So the legit system is moving along. More options are opening and restrictions are being loosened.
One of the qualifications on the app that got me in was "office worker." I don't know if that got me in.
There are legit "vaccine finder" websites working now. Lots of options. All of the clinics want to run at full capacity so many are taking walk-ins to fill cancellations and no-shows. They want to use all the open vials at the end of the day, too. So be resourceful and keep trying; it's like scoring tickets to sold out or restricted shows.
Except there are no colorful envelope contests yet.

I just saw this and think it’s feasible, especially at the sheds with lawn seating. They can just undersell the lawn a little & space out seating in the pavilions. Most shows don’t near sell out anyways. Red Rocks says 80 percent by mid summer too. I think camping events may be off til fall but shows will be back after Memorial Day. Indoor shows are gonn be spotty & may suffer half capacity til fall or winter but it’s getting better, as of today at least. There may be lots of bands that chose not to go out, but there will be options this summer I think.

No, I’m gonna say “WILL” and say it emphatically.... There’s already been shows at Suwannee on Valentine’s Day weekend with Oteil & Dumpstaphunk, Cervantes has done indoor shows with Lettuce in Denver, Billy Strings is scheduling Florida & now South Carolina shows with pods, Keller booked B Chord, The Flaming Lips did the actual bubble thing, shows are coming back cause they already are back. I think Twiddle, Pigeons, Turkuaz, Spafford, Big Something, Umphrey’s, Bisco, JRAD, TTB, etc all go out after Memorial Day. Phish in the fall & Cheese whenever Nershi comes back from Hawaii. There’s already basketball games with fans, baseball is allowing fans as well, crowds are coming to town near you soon. The country, nor the industry have the appetite or the patience to slow the return of shows. It’s a train on a track, rolling like an avalanche, coming down a mountain. Whether that’s wise or not, is another kettle of fish.

Not that it should change the way we do things, but there is some scientific support for this: if a person already had COVID, the first shot is really like the second shot and being positive was the first shot. So think about all the people in tier 3 who already has it--that would include a lot of healthy youngsters. They get out of the danger zone more quickly.

I think there are places opening up too early & lifting mask mandates is a mistake all the way. But to plan something in fall or late summer is doable I feel. While there may be another surge in cases & I’m sure there will be after Spring Break Season, the NCAA Tournament (I’m in Indy) & the other freedoms reinstated... this may not be like before. Most elderly people will be vaccinated soon, here we’re already on 50-55, people with co morbidities are next, after that most people who have bad outcomes or require hospitalization are safe or safer. Once that happens, while we still need to tamp out the virus to avoid variants emerging, we’ll be good. The Johnson & Johnson single shot is gonna be getting made by Merck now as well and I bet a couple other manufacturers make it too and it’s gonna be everywhere. The goal can’t be total vaccination, it has to be total risk averted. And everyday & every shot in an arm, gets us one step closer to that goal. Now I wouldn’t go to Suwannee Rising in April yet, but I’d go to Billy Strings in a Pod or go see Keller in May near me. And by fall I’ll be ready to rage festivals. The next 2 months are crucial, but I feel optimistic.

I think the article is more of a condemnation of the practices & poor vaccine program than anything. In Brazil they have basically taken a “laissez faire” approach, they ignore masking, don’t distance socially, didn’t close down industry or commerce and all of these poor choices have allowed the virus to go unchecked. Inevitably, it will tear through the high risk populations, which it did, it over flooded their health care system & by allowing it to infect millions it allowed the virus to find host that allowed it mutate. The more infections you have the higher the chance for mutations, it’s like a bad lottery. Brazil made poor choices, this is the result. Other factors to consider are... some populations (Latin Americans, Africans) are more susceptible to this. As are places with hygiene problems. As far as reinfection goes, I think this will be a flu like illness, requiring vaccination every 6-10 months. By vaccinating people we eliminate possible host for mutations & limit hospitalizations. This article is basically just a piece against the idea of herd immunity through infection. Also it’s a study in biology, disease is nature’s defense. If a forest has too many raccoons, what happens? Either disease strikes or famine ensues, but no matter what nature will balance the scale. This virus is a solider sent to kill, either we stay apart, don’t allow it to spread & vaccinate it to death or it will kill us all. This is an overpopulation problem more than anything. As the people of Brazil push further & further into the Amazon & come into contact with things humans never have, they better get used to novel viruses.

Brazil also has so much tropical geography, which diseases love. i go back to that great book from 20 years ago, "The Coming Plague" by Laurie Garrett
And for population adjustment, don't forget good old war.
