Unsubstantiated Lockn 2016 Artist Rumor

That's me with anythign Zep related, so stones related this year in place of Plant from last year would be totally welcome by me. Would love to go back to lockn' this year. Just gotta have a lineup to get me there. Last years lineup minus plant + the stones would have done that for me.

If one were willing to give MD&E a miss, I wonder mightily what might put one over the top.

It sounds like the MD&E was pretty special, but on paper (though it definitely intrigued me) without Joe Cocker it was not a huge draw for me. Let's say Joe Cocker hadn't passed, and they did that with him. Even that would only put it on par with the Stones, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Furthur, CSNY for me, but without it was closer to a draw of what Little Feat was. One of my favorite bands of all time, but without Lowell George, they're a band that (say, by themselves) I'd only travel about 2 hours for and pay $30 to see.

I do not understand your reasoning.  MD&E did not interest you because no Joe Cocker.  Little Feat drops to a 2nd tier ban with no Lowell George.  But you list Futhur on the same level as the Stones and Neil Young.  So you are saying that JK is equal to Jerry?  I liked Furthur, I like Ratdog, Dead and Company, The Dead, Fare Thee Well, and most all reincarnations (even a couple of Phil & Friends), but they were all nothing compared to Jerry and the Grateful Dead.  I agree with someone above that if these line-ups have not interested you enough to attend, I do not know if this festival will ever reach that accomplishment.  I know we all have our favorites, but Lockn' has exceeded expectations every time.  That is the magic of Lockn and any festival.  I have never been a huge Joe Cocker fan so MD&E was not at the top of my list to see.  I left Lockn thinking it was one of the top performances I had ever witnessed and once in a lifetime.  I hope they do announce something that sparks your interest and I hope it is soon. 

If I may join the topic drift, I came to MD&E with a slightly different perspective. The original was one of my favorite albums since it came out, and I returned to it over and over. But it wasn't for Cocker (though I am a long-time fan of his, too) but for the whole project, and Leon Russell, and what they threw together, and how they presented other's songs--and great songs--in a new yet honorable way (anyone notice the new lyrics to Honky Tonk Women?).

So when TTB announced this project, all I could do was wag my tail and pee on the carpet. Because TTB does the same with other's songs, and also puts together grand collaborations just as Leon threw together the MD&E tour originally. Or think of it this way: the original MD&E was a Lockn-type event, so how fitting for it to be reincarnated at Lockn?
OK, Cocker is gone--but MD&E was not Cocker; it was a project of which he was a part.

When Jefferson Airplane was announced, I looked back at its great project, Blows Against the Empire, hoping for that to be the opener to TTB/MD&E, but that's OK that it didn't materialize.

Now, if we could get the Lockn forces to reincarnate Concert for Bangla Desh--another of my favorite projects from that era! I can see TTB running that one, too, especially since Susan showed she can handle the male parts, and Leon has come back to life.

Also, Little Feat didn't back up Lowell George, either; he was merely part of the band, albeit very important, and his first iteration of the band stumbled a bit until the New Orleans guys came in (and at the time of his death, he was diverting his writing talents away from the band, not a happy thing--go listen to Thanks I'll Eat It Here) . Six years with him; 35 years without him--says something. In fact, kinda parallel to Duane Allman and his band. I can say all this b/c Little Feat and the Allman Brothers are among my favorite bands.

REALLY gotta disagree with the Duane Allman Lowell George comparison. All of Little Feats great songs were sung by Lowell. Also it was 10 years with him, then an 8 year break and then 29 years without him. The Allman Brothers had Duane for a MUCH shorter time span and he didn't sing (sorry voices are MUCH harder to replace than guitarists) and because of that I'd honestly say Dickey Betts was a bigger loss for the Allmans than Duane was. Lowell George WAS Little Feat, plain and simple. I would definitely see the band without him for fun. But with Lowell they were one of the greatest bands of all time, without him they wouldn't have cracked the top 100. Lowells voice was just so greazy, it can't be touched.

In other words, nobody knows anything about Lockn 2016 other than time and place.
