Replaced with Neil Young, but probably should have just done WSP since it'll end up being them anyway!

As for Neil--and I delayed responding as I did not want to use a significant post on him--I'd likely be awake, but snarling, as I do not like him now at all. However, for the good of the fest, I'd endorse having him as a closer.
And how to say it? I like old Neil Young better than new Neil Young, or I like young Neil Young better than old Neil Young? Is that a tautology?

And what I like to see are artists like Simon who keep doing new stuff rather than lock into the old. For Lockn shows, think Robert Plant, even though Fogarty surprised many the way he played the old stuff but kicked butt doing it. Petty was an awesome blend of favorites and brand new releases.
Along these lines, let's wish for two nights of Van Morrison--one old songs and one new songs, each with any or all Lockn artists sitting in!
And to my original comment that brought this, I can't abide any Neil Young from the last 20 years or so; he's too whiney and smug. "Keep Rockin in the Free World" is one of the worst songs ever--but typifies him. But--I can listen to "Four Way Street" and "Deja Vu" over and over. That's the Young Young v. New Young in my book.

That said, Van would be great, but it's a risky proposition due to how temperamental he is. I've seen him 3 times, and he's been great all 3. I've had some friends, however, who have seen him put on bad show after bad show.

But to be perfectly objective about it, most of our old favorites, or classics, are that way because they got too much airplay.

There's a lot of music that was popular, overplayed and not very good that I hated back in the day (Bachman Turner Overdrive) that I enjoy hearing today just because it kicks off memories.
Our local "Classic Rock" stations WNOR used to be great FM and still has one of the great old DJ's, Mike Arlo, but now all he can play is the same four Zepellins, two Deads, three Allmans, etc. He privately admitted he is required to play only songs people can sing along with.
Another long-time DJ, Eric Worden, turned an airstream into a pop-up radio studio and is going around doing pod casts. pilotonline.com/inside-business/news/entrepreneurs-innovation/local-dj-eric-worden-wants-to-take-his-show-on/article_6d0d0eea-c2de-5230-a504-c81f3ce7f753.html
