Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
"no one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public" I remember making some cool pictures with a Spirograph and hanging them up. But there was a lot more human input than just the mechanics of the gears, teeth and ball points. Reel Big Fish comes to mind.
But I'd like to see Marcus King all day, every day. He could easily take over Warren Haynes' previous role as Mayor of Lockn, and not just for his look!

$65 ticket to see a sold out GVF show at a 1800 capacity theater. Again I passed. Next year they are playing near me at a 5000 seat
amphitheater. I regret not seeing them now at a smaller venue and would probably still pass on free tickets if available but would like the option to see or
not see them(dinner slot) at a festival.
I think this Pitchfork review is a bit overly harsh but I agree with many of the authors points.

For those who understandably don't want to read a GVF review, these 3 sentences stood out to me.
"But for as retro as Anthem of the Peaceful Army may seem, in actuality, it is the future.
It’s proof of concept that in the streaming and algorithm economy, a band doesn’t need to really capture the past, it just needs to come close enough so that a computer can assign it to its definite article.
The more unique it sounds, the less chance it has to be placed alongside that you already love."

Seriously, wtf is this?
"And at least Zeppelin knew to separate their sweet-lady-I’m-horny songs from their howling-about-literary-fantasy songs. Hilariously, Greta Van Fleet combine them into one on “The Cold Wind,” where the narrator (who is dying) begs his “sweet mama” to take the family ox (I guess) to town to sell it, when, mid-ox-transaction, this happens: “The Yankee peddler bargains with you on his way/Whoa sweet mama’s gotten herself a new dress.”
That’s funny, but it’s not supposed to be funny, because Greta Van Fleet do not possess self-awareness—at all. When asked about a characteristically ugh lyric (“All my brothers who stand up/For the peace of the land”), Jake responded, in part, “I guess it’s subject to interpretation. But I think the initial idea with that was that, as brothers, we stand for the peace of land. And that was for the good of the Earth, and for man.” Ignoring that this is basically a gag in Spinal Tap, a much better answer that would speak to the spirit of the music they are trying to capture would be: “I don’t know, who gives a sh*t.”"
I think the thing that upsets me the most about them is all the people saying "at least they play guitars and don't just press buttons." Look - there's plenty of great music out there - bands that use guitars, bands that use samples, bands that press keys...I don't know. I hate this attitude like, oh they play guitars so we should be happy about that. Maroon 5 play guitars too, you don't see us anointing them as rock gods.

Is that describing a computer-driven process for pairing songs, such as Pandora? If so, it's a little scary and a lot disappointing that music, which is art, is being evaluated by algorithms, which is not.

I've recently started in Spotify but use it for music I pick, and Pandora for music I don't.
I had a good run of music on Pandora by making "Moon Alice radio". Then I asked Alexa to play "moon Alice radio" and she totally gaped, first pretending she couldn't find it and then Pandora was playing a great collection of music with female artists, but no Moon Alice (which is all male) or music of that type. But the weirdness continued when the music was interrupted for an add for...Moon Alice posters.
It's all voodoo.

I think John Hiatt would be a good fit for Lockn. His music is solid and varied; he can sit in with others; he has popular name recognition to help ticket sales (the jam-head with the non-jam-head spouse), probably not too expensive and his popular age range is younger than the musicians of the 70's.

An effort to bring a two-day music festival featuring jam band Dead and Company to Jackson Hole appears to be revived, according to county documents.
A special-event permit application to bring the 20,000-person event to the Jackson Hole Hereford Ranch in South Park the weekend of Aug. 17, 2019, is pending with Teton County.
Last winter and spring, promoter Highline Sports and Entertainment sought to bring the band in for a weekend concert. Hundreds of public comments flowed into county commissioners’ inboxes, mostly urging them to approve the show’s permit.
Not sure it has any impact on Lockn' though they could do 2 festivals in 2 weeks.

Agreed, MMJ should be everywhere next year can’t wait.
I would say that if the Roo lineup comes out and Phish isn’t on it, then you can assume they’re doing Lockn. And if they are on it then probably no Lockn.
