OK - Gut Check time!! You come back to your camp and some wook has taken a dump in your beer cooler. (Assuming anyone would leave their beer cooler out...)
Do you clean it out and save the beer? Toss it all? Does it depend on the beer? Bite the bullet if it's Friday or Saturday and toss it if it's Sunday?
(I have to recuse myself on this. I would toss all the beer even if there was no wook - I don't drink the stuff myself. )

The saga of Woodstock 50 continues today with a heated letter by promoter/founder Michael Lang, alleging that Amplifi Live (a facet of Japanese investment firm Dentsu) “illegally swept approximately $17 million from the festival bank account, leaving [Woodstock] in peril.”
The statement comes from a five-page note that Lang sent a week after Dentsu “cancelled” the event, a decision that Lang almost-immediately condemned and denied.
Lang reiterates this in the letter, writing that Dentsu had “had no legal right” to say Woodstock 50 was off, and goes as far as to say that Desnu “directly contacted all stakeholders, including the venue Watkins Glen International, insurance companies, producers, vendors and performers (some of whom I am lucky to count as personal friends) and suggested they not do business with me, and violate their contracts with my company.”
“Initially I had some concerns about linking an organization like Dentsu to Woodstock,” Lang admits. “Corporations are not always the right match for certain creative endeavors, but I learned that Dentsu has pursued various social initiatives after certain tragedies and scandals that Dentsu faced which gave me confidence that your company would be an ethical and honorable firm to partner with. Your officer here, DJ Martin, Chief Commercial Officer, reassured me that Dentsu would not interfere, and equally important, could embody the special meaning of Woodstock. It would only be in a supportive financial role to ensure our mutual success.”
However, Lang laments, it quickly became apparent that Dentsu had abandoned Woodstock 50 and the company allegedly began draining bank accounts associated with the event.
“While we were on a call together as a group at 12:00 EDT, the media had already begun reporting that Woodstock was canceled,” he says. “I then learned that Amplifi illegally swept approximately $17 million from the festival bank account, leaving the festival in peril. These actions confirmed my worst concerns about partnering with your company. These actions are neither a legal nor honorable way to do business.”
In addition to Dentsu, production partner Surperfly has also pulled out of Woodstock 50. And while the Woodstock 50 website is still active and showcasing their 100+ artist roster, no onsale date has been announced.

The drama surrounding the status of Michael Lang’s Woodstock 50th anniversary celebration this August continues, as lawyers for Detsu, the Japanese company and former Woodstock 50 financier, released a statement yesterday refuting an attempt by festival organizers to gain a court order that would force Dentsu to return nearly $18 million that the company allegedly stole from Woodstock 50’s account.
As Billboard reports, a statement from Dentsu’s lawyer Marc L. Greenwald accuses Woodstock 50 LLC and Lang of “misrepresentations, incompetence, and contractual breaches” that “have made it impossible to produce a high-quality event that is safe and secure for concertgoers, artists, and staff. The production company has quit, no permits have been issued, necessary roadwork has not begun, and there is no prospect for sufficient financing. As much as the parties might wish it otherwise, the festival contemplated by their agreement cannot happen and allowing it to go forward would only put the public at risk.”
Woodstock 50’s allegations of the stolen $18 million came last week, along with accusations of defamation after Dentsu announced the festival’s cancellation (Lang quickly denied the statement), and a court hearing was scheduled for yesterday afternoon (we will update with any outcomes of the hearing as they are made available).
At the beginning of this month, Billboard also noted that multiple talent agencies representing artists on the Woodstock 50 lineup claimed that their clients no longer had an contractual obligation to appear at the fest following Dentsu cutting ties with the event.
One of the musicians set to play the 50th anniversary celebration, guitarist John Mayer of headliners Dead & Company, recently spoke with SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen (via Uproxx) about his thoughts on the Woodstock 50 drama, explaining that he had as much idea of what’s going on as most fans. He even threw in an apt Monty Python reference for good measure.
“I’m as much of a spectator as anyone else is to this wildness,” Mayer says. “I was told, ‘Yeah it’s not happening.’ There’s only one person still saying, ‘No, it’s gonna go.’ It reminds me of the scene in Monty Python [and The Holy Grail] where the knight is now missing the arm and the leg and he’s hopping up and down and saying, ‘It’s just a flesh wound.’ If those guys [Dead & Company] end up going, I will go, but it seems to me now: ‘It’s just a flesh wound’ and blood is spurting everywhere.”

My understanding is that the cancellation of the Pfish curveball event had nothing to do with the speedway itself but the local water supply was temporarily contaminated by heavy rains.

I don't see any reason Phish wouldn't go back other than a nebulous "bad vibes" thing. But that event was managed very professionally, which includes making the "town" happy. Woodstock50, clearly, wasn't.

My point was just that mosagra was correct in saying that the Curveball cancellation had nothing to do with the speedway itself, it was the town or "village" of Watkins Glen that had the issue. And it's also true that the people who live there have fought Woodstock 50 from its inception, as documented throughout this thread. It's not anyone at the speedway that doesn't want it to happen.
These 2 things are not related other than the fact it's 2 consecutive major concert events there that have not taken place. That makes me question whether they'll get more major events in the future.

After two days of hearings this week, a judge in New York Supreme Court ruled that Dentsu Aegis was not within its rights to cancel the festival on its own and that, in effect, Woodstock 50 can proceed as planned in August. Dentsu had exercised what it called a “Control Option” to shut down the festival after an alleged breach by Woodstock 50, but Judge Barry Ostrager asserted that the “control option” “does not provide [the company] with the right to unilaterally cancel the Festival” and that, “in sum, nothing in the [Financing and Production Agreement] indicates that [Dentsu subsidiary] Amplifi’s exercise of the Control Option overrides the contract’s explicit requirement that any cancellation of the Festival be mutually agreed upon in writing.”
However, the court did not grant Woodstock 50 the right to reclaim the $18 million, since, in Ostrager’s view, Woodstock LLC “falls woefully short of making the heightened showing necessary to warrant a mandatory injunction ordering Amplifi to return $17.8 million to the Festival Bank.”
Both sides immediately claimed victory in the split ruling.
