BlackBerry Smoke seems to be available and touring later in the summer with Allman Betts Band. Maybe well see a collaboratin of the two with Jaimoe between Oteil and The Q?

I can dig this. There a band big enough to fill that slot & small enough to not break the bank. Plus like you said, they are a good sit-in act too. I think this is more likely than a Bob Weir or WSP. I still hold out hope for Jeff Beck though, but Blackberry Smoke is legit.

Same down here in the Carolinas and evidently they're gonna have a traveling Big House exhibit at each show. I might have to shoot up I40 and catch the Raleigh date.

On another note ticket sales are up compared to the past few years at this time. Some may say that's because the festival is earlier. The reason doesn't matter, it is good news for the future of our favorite festival.
**insert comments here about being too crowded this year and enjoying the size of the crowd last year...**

I think ticket sales are up cause the lineup is pretty solid with the exception of the late nights. They got the best Phil Line Up’s they’ve ever had & the daily collabs w/ Otiel, Allman Betts & Railroad Earth are gonna be good stuff. The afternoons may look light but they won’t feel that way. Lockn has got the monopoly on early summer Dead Music too, there’s no Dead & Co at all this spring except NOLA & no summer Dates til mid-late July in the East. That helped drive sales too I assume. Plus Lockn is a top tier festival that gets plenty of pub. I also think Lockn has a good handle on attendance. Even Electric Forest & Hulaween have began reducing their attendance caps in past years. Lockn could accommodate 20K plus if needed but I think they like the cap at around 15K-18K. With Lockn being a single stage venue, a larger crowd than that packs the field a tad too much. I think this year the undercard bands will see a more empty field than prior years because I’m not sure about some of the crossover appeal to the die hard Dead Head crowd of some acts. But when Phil hits the stage each night that place will be packed. It’s gonna be a good year for Lockn I think, especially music wise.

I am glad I saw them at Lockn x 2 and Hampton x 2 and doubt I'd pay that freight to do see them again at a solo venue or make a special trip to a fest just for them. BTDTBTT.
So if the numbers are up without them, and no possibility of adding them to drive speculation sales, I think that shows Lockn' doesn't need them and is better off spending the $2million elsewhere.
