DK* has always been a favorite of mine, too, so sultry like a dram of fine Islay uisgue breatha.

Not sure how DK would fit in at Lockn but no protests from me!

One of my favorite types of music is big band/swing/jazz from about 1927-1952 (though lots of good stuff lingered and morphed after 1952). NKC is up on the list.
I recently heard a Sydney Bichet piece from 1948--actually a sound check before a radio show, so it went on for about 20 minutes, unlike most songs of the day (and up until recently) cut short for airplay. It was truly a jam on the order of the Allman Brothers and Dave Mathews, as well as GD's more structured pieces. And like Benny Goodman's 1938 Carnegie Hall show. So I ran some Sydney Bichet back into earlier Dixieland and damn if that's not pure "jam band" and which is why I always hate the term "jam band" and its understood limitation to recent musical styles.

I've been listening, and forcing select coworkers to listen, to one of my favorites today. Louis Jordan. Most people have never heard of him even tho he was a major player. Fromm 42 to 51 he ruled the R&B charts with 57 hits. He pretty much invented the framework of rock and roll. Cool stuff. And you are right about the jam term. People should listen to that Benny Goodman's 1938 Carnegie Hall show. It is one of the most raging shows ever. But it's Benny Goodman and that is old folks music. It's a shame. When it came out it was so radical that parents forbade their kids to listen to it. Sing Sing Sing (With a Swing) off of that is insane. Some of the hottest live music ever recorded. Gene Krupa kills.
It seriously had kids going insane, sweating and sex dancing in the aisles. It was scandalous beyond measure.

Amen. after live at fillmore east, my favorite album. Krupa's drumming is outstanding, too.
