We did have a blast and you will too. Have you ever been to Ireland? Where are you going? We went in 2005 and it was beyond awesome. If you have any questions just ask. I haven't been to Ireland, so am stoked. Flying into Dublin (2 days), then to Waterford (1day), over to Kenmare (1day), then outside Ennis for 5 days. Any must sees in Ennis would be great as we haven't planned much there.

When you are in Dublin go to the Guinness Brewery at St James Gate. It is a really cool museum and restaurant. Go have a pint of the black at the top at the Gravity Bar and it's 360 degree panoramic view. Go to Trinity College and see the library and the Book of Kells. My favorite pub there was Peter's Pub.
When we were there you didn't tip the bartender. If you were going to have 1 beer then you just paid for a beer. If you were going to have a few then on you second one you would order "A pint of Guinness and one for you." The barkeep would either pour himself a drink or pocket the equivalent. It takes some getting used to and may have changed. The correct toast is Slante (pronounced slancha or something approximating that). Cheers is what Brits say. Don't be a Brit.
Kenmare is on the loop around the Dingle Peninsula. Pretty stunning and it is also a stones throw from Killarney National Park. The place is so gorgeous you expect leprechauns riding unicorns to pop out from around every corner. AND THEY DO!
Ennis is about 45 min from Cliffs of Moher. You have to see this and you have seen it on tv, movies, posters, etc. 200 meter cliffs that rise straight up out of the Atlantic. Or plunge straight down into the Atlantic depending on your perspective I guess. 25-30 min north of Ennis is The Burren. It's a totally rock covered area that was so shitty the the British let the Irish keep it. Out in the middle of it is the Poulnabrone megalithic portal tomb. Pretty surreal landscape. Another 20 minutes north of there in Kilcolgan is Moran's Oyster Cottage, The Weir, Kilcolgan, Co. Galway, Ireland. It is a thatched roof oyster bar (and seafood restaurant) that is in it's 7th generation of family ownership. Established in 1797. Galway oysters are a treat and you will never get a better chance to eat them fresh.
You can't swing a dead cat without hitting some castle or the other. A little, but not much, out of the way from Waterford to Kenmare is Cahir and Cahir Castle. A 12th-century river island fortress that is the picture of "castle" in the dictionary. But the crazy thing there is a walk up the river, or a drive if the weather is not ideal, is the the Swiss Cottage. It is a four room cottage built for the lady of the castle and her entourage to play peasant milk maid in. It is crazy. The stairs are mahogany but are painted to look like pine. Peasants wouldn't have mahogany but you can't expect for the lady of the castle to walk on pine. All the doors and windows are askew, but perfectly aligned askew. I forget the number but the cleared out a vista from the castle to the cottage and in so doing displaced like 80 peasant families so they could pretend to be peasants. Oh the irony.
There is a madonna and a framed picture of JFK in every restaurant and home in Ireland. The hardcore ones have pictures of Jackie O. Roundabouts are your friend. You will love them. All bars in Ireland close at midnight on Sunday (nod nod wink wink).

The correct toast is Slante (pronounced slancha or something approximating that). Cheers is what Brits say. Don't be a Brit.

But pronouncing it correctly is just bonus points. Attempting to say it correctly (and failing) and not saying "Cheers mate!" is the real meat of the meal. Not being a Brit, even if you happen to be one, carries far more currency than enunciation.

I haven't been to Ireland, so am stoked. Flying into Dublin (2 days), then to Waterford (1day), over to Kenmare (1day), then outside Ennis for 5 days. Any must sees in Ennis would be great as we haven't planned much there.

Also when in Dublin do the prison tour at Kilmainham Gaol. It is a great tour and provides you with a good basis of the history of Ireland.
