Apparently there were no more large generators left in the region to rent; the Richmond race took a lot of them already. And it's not something you can just pull off a construction site somewhere on a Friday and bring back Monday. But they kept one running next to a closed down bathroom. I saw a clever camper nearby run an extension cord from it to his shelter so he had fans, etc. (note for next year). They even refueled it, with a large truck; the bathroom was allegedly closed for 2 days because the service truck couldn't get up the hill. I was in VIP RV so maybe I missed the water spigots in the camgrounds? The only place to fill a water jug is buying one at the general store?
Seems to me this is the absolute top logistical priority.

I was in GA Tent only camping. There was a sink trolley but the water tank did not get filled and the thing did not get turned on the entire weekend.

Yup, we were next to a water station, but alas it did not work. We made sure to bring enough to drink and we even showered off. Good thing that it wasn't hot. I am sure that they intended to have it not sure what went wrong.

found one hidden behind vip car camping showers. don't know about elsewhere but if they didn't have them readily available, that is unacceptable.

Huh. I found a sink truck near me in car camping and had no trouble filling my solar shower from it on Sunday.

We were in GA RV adjacent to the BRB. Great spot overall however the one water station never ran after Friday. I checked it numerous times. Good thing it wasn't in the 90's everyday.

We were on the same side as you doctor. Station was off all weekend. No problem for us as we were prepared, but still not good. Never been to an event like this without easy access to water

The lack of toilets and fresh water should be the Virginia authorities focus rather than illegal alcohol sales. The venue is lucky it wasn't hot, could have had a lot of heat stroke/dehydration. These guys have to figure logistics out or the casual fans and day trippers will bankrupt them and ruin it for us.

If the freak storm affected the water supply and facilities, I would be understanding about it. But there were similar failures that were not storm related, directly or indirectly.

We were in GA tent-only and my husband was told there was an issue about not having generators for the water stations & pumps. That just doesn't make sense. That would have been an easy fix.
He called the phone number on the septic pumping truck to tell them they needed to pump more. He talked with one of the drivers at one point and told him they needed to get there more often. The guy told him he was parked up close-by and we should come tell him if they needed pumping because they didn't want to disturb the patrons during the music or at night. Charlie told the guy not to worry about that and last year they were pumped in the middle of the night. Also, he reminded the guy that it was the company name on the trucks the people would remember as the company who wasn't getting the job done. It wasn't long after that the frequency of pumping picked up and also they doubled the number of porta-johns. My guess is that Charlie wasn't the only one calling.

good idea to call that number. I'd expect a "not my job; I'm following order."
I tried the VIP concierge 24 hour number several times and yes, there is voice mail dead end all 24 hours!
And the poor lady in the golf cart running the cleaning crew (some of whom went on strike on her) caught all the "comments" from the patrons because there was no one else you could reach.

I suggested to the guys I was with that perhaps something was damaged during the storm. They did not concur that would be a reason not to replace the generators. I learned years ago not to question an engineer on engineering matters. Not defending the organizers, but the generators in our camping region were out on Saturday and Sunday night (thankfully). So that might corroborate their story.
btw--They are recently retired power station electrical & mechanical engineers. Maybe they should sign on as consultants for next year.
We survived, so I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Honestly I do not think the generator was the only issue at that particular sink trolley (the one by GA camping). The tank was not filled, so even if they had a generator, there was no water to pump.

I was in GA car camping and there was some sort of water supply, unmarked, about 200 yards from "The Woods" stage. Not many knew about it, but those who did had water aplenty. We brought enough in for the weekend, thankfully.

Never rely on others for essential supplies. Organizers seem to be getting less and less capable over the years. Seriously, these festivals seem to be having more and more simple logistical problems lol.

I always bring tp, that stuff in the portos is useless.
Here is a tip, take a full roll of tp and pull the roll out of the middle. Then put the roll in a ziploc bag. You can pull from the middle like you would with clorox wipes or similar. Dont have to worry about it coming unrolled or getting wet.

Wish I could remember where I got the idea from. I can vouch for the method though, been doing it for years.
Fits in a cargo pocket too, if you don't carry a backpack.

Pre-lockn I pack small amounts of tp in snack size ziplocks so I can put a couple in my pockets for trips to the portas while away from camp. Works great.

in the weeks leading up to it, I take the short rolls of TP at home and pack them away for the fest so I don't have to carry a big honking roll around; also good for rescuing the stranded.
