What did you listen to today?

Have been listening to podcasts all day at work and decided to share a few relevant ones y’all might enjoy. Rick Rubin has a new one called Tetragrammaton. He interviewed Johnny Slayer and he spoke extensively about his time with D&Co. I recommend and would post a link be there is no freestanding webpage, so just find it via your chosen podcaster app. 

Rubin also interviewed the guy behind the podcast, A History of Rock Music in 500 songs. I was unaware of this show. The author was very knowledgeable and he goes waaaay back in time so I plan on starting from the beginning. Anywho, in the interview they mentioned his GD episode. He chooses one song from the artist and his choice was Darkstar. Pretty bold move. Rubin said (rudely I thought) he found the episode “impenetrable” and quit after 10mins. It’s 4 hours. I found it excellent. He does an extremely good job of summarizing the history of the GD and the phenomena around it. Some of it is base knowledge but he gives a good explanation of how Bobby got his style and from where each member came from musically. Highly recommend.

In and around Richmond the FM stations were late to catch up. We listened to WGOE, 1590 on your AM dial. It was the only album oriented station around through the mid-1970's.

Yes! I remember the King Biscuit Flower Hour. Hanging around on a Sunday night listening to the radio.
