I think JT was the second show I took Ann to. Back when Kings Dominion had concerts, late 80s. What I heard tonight on the radio was Fire on the Mountain and Casey Jones. Both worked well. The GD had some reggae/island edge at times and JGB did a lot in that genre. But here's my take--what makes all of the GD songs, especially live, so captivating is this subtle back beat in all songs carried through the show. Watch anyone who knows the Dead when you put on any tune and watch their head do that rhythmic bobbing. In a crowd it's mass--well, not hypnosis or mass hysteria, but definitely a mass groove you see in Reggae, deep south Afram gospel, and many creole forms.

My best friend who lobbied for me to join him as a deadhead for years always had a big subwoofer in his car. He used to crank up the Dead and say something like "can't enjoy the dead if you can't hear Mickey and Phil". I didn't understand cause I wasn't into them then. I know have a very good system in my house and when I hear the sub doing it's thing with the bass/drum lines I think of that. this subtle back beat

I could quickly become an over-poster here in this topic. While doing personal business at home, I rotate a variety of youtube videos so I usually have GD, D&C, and TTB music as, "listened today". Also a lot of great, early obscure stuff found there on youtube. But recently (and today), a lot of early Fairport Convention. Great early guitar work by RT, and the female singers were world class.
As can be expected, 7:53 time on a live song means a very decent instrumental break!

I loved Uriah Heep back in the day; it fit in with the Tolkien stuff I liked as well. Saw them twice I think, at least once, at Hampton. It's not quite as magical now, though.
Love the name, too.

Willie Nile is a Bob Dylan style artist. This song was inspired from the chilling scene the rescue workers encountered after the Madrid train bombing--Cell Phones Ringing in the Pockets of the Dead.
