Happy New Years folks! Now I know that this is a long shot, and probably not believable, but neither was the rumor of a festival in Nelson County featuring Neil Young, Furthur and the Black Crowes but we all know how that rumor turned out (except for the Neil cancelling part).

Ok here goes. Shoemaker's is a restaurant here in Lynchburg which is connected to the Craddock Terry Hotel which is where most of the bands stay during Lockn. Furthur, WSP, SCI and Govt. Mule have all stayed there in the last few years. Apparently (and I am getting this second hand mind you) someone from the Rolling Stones camp has been inquiring about menus at Shoemaker's. Now while it seems ludicrous that the Stones will play Lockn (or is it?) maybe a Rolling Stones incident or Mick Jagger solo who knows. Keith Richards??, don't know. Anyway it is probably bullshit but if not you heard it here first.

I am not sure I buy the possibility. I just can't understand how the Stones would fit into the Lockn budget. Not that I wouldnt like to see them. I've seen the Stones, but it has been a long time. Of course I don't know shit about festival logistics, so...

I'm not a Stones hater. I quite like them & have seen them a few times thru the years. I just don't see them playing Lockn'. Like Snyooterdynck said Keith has a new album out & I could see Ron show up with him. I could dig that. We just need any kind of announcement.

I am pretty ambivalent about anything Stones-related. If we get something, I'll watch it an undoubtedly enjoy it. If we don't, I won't lose any sleep. Either way it's not something that will make or break the Lockn' experience for me.

Just to keep the conversation interesting, here's a thought. Maybe they are going to try to revive the spirit of the Mad Dogs set and have Tedeschi Trucks plus a whole slew of guests (including Chuck Leavell, Darryl Jones...or maybe even Wyman himself?) perform Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out.

I saw them about 13 years ago and dug it. But they were really old then. They're much longer on the tooth now and that has to affect performance.

true, but too much Wrinkle Rock will kill Lockn's market. The old guys are more likely just to bring in day trippers.

And I am a big Prine fan and would love to see him but his shows are so--serious--I don't know if he'd be a great fit at Lockn. But maybe he'd work early afternoon, and I sure would be there!

I have a long list of favorites I'd rather see elsewhere. I go back and forth on Robert Earl Keen, for example.

Having seen Dylan recently, I think that would be as big a buzzkill as Willy Nelson was.

first, I don't consider Prine to be wrinkle rock--that's Stones, Dylan, Moody Blues, etc.

second, one of my favorite concerts of all times was John Prine about 4 years ago--and yes he was hilarious. And it's one of the few concerts I've gone to where I was glad to sit in chairs in a theater; if I don't go with someone, I usually miss shows that aren't it's open floor. But Prine was just him and two strings; he doesn't seem to like rowdy; he plays for and to the audience and his talent is in the lyrics, song-writing, and presentation. In other words, a good sit-and-listen show. No, make that great. Just doesn't fit the milling around loud Lockn' crowd IMO.
