Cool! Depending on the host, that could last for a year or more. We have to get our absentee landlord on board tho.

Lets just take over some random free account board and start posting in it about lockn with no explanation of who we are or why we have occupied their space.

Making a whole new board just seems like a lot of work.

with Dylan and Sneake not around as much anymore maybe someone who is a daily visitor can be added as a mod to help clean up. I also would be willing to contribute some $$$ if that's the route to take.

I'm in for a contribution to keep us Spam free. I'm not here as much due to life getting in the way, but it's a great community...

I apologize if I offended you. I certainly didn't mean anything negative by it. I appreciate everything you and Dylan do for this community. 

If it is decided that we really need to go private, I'll kick in some funds, too.

In all seriousness, I was not offended. I am well-aware that I've been negligent in my administrative duties.

Jumping right into it here - I think we're dealing with a few different issues here:

1. How do we deal with spammers?

2. In light of the fact that I haven't been as much of a presence, do we need to add another moderator or two?

3. Should this message board evolve beyond the confines of a free proboards forum?

My thoughts:

1. We do have options for dealing with spammers aside from making the forum private or relocating. Administrators alone will help, but I'm also looking at changing some of the permissions for posting and creating threads. Although I would prefer not to, I think I'm going to change the settings so that new members cannot start new threads.

2. Obviously the answer to this question is yes. I'll discuss the details with Sneake.

3. I'm overwhelmed by the support for this forum. Sneake has been lobbying me about upgrading for some time now. I haven't done as much research on the subject as I should have, and frankly it is a subject I'm not very knowledgeable on. For me, the tricky part is figuring out which of the many options is best for the forum. It is my understanding that, if we want to completely transplant our existing forum, we need to upgrade to Proboards Pro for at least six months before they let us take all the data elsewhere.

I've got some actual downtime this week (hooray!). More discussion to come . . .
