First time at lockn

Continuous. Feel like I definitely had to walk away from an early Keller set one time to see some other bluegrass kickoff the main stage in '14 - but that was when morning music was at the Triangle. When it was at the Triangle they sometimes had like 30 minutes built in to let you walk to main stage...but the idea is continuous. Someone will correct me if I am wrong to remembering incorrectly.

I'll just add as a Forrest Camper, it is not super easy to run back to the tent and cook anything substantial without missing music once the day starts. We cook, in part, because we camp a lot and enjoy cooking. I found going back to your tent once during the festival day was tolerable, but you'd be making some music sacrifices (impossible to only miss one act when walking + cooking, even something simple). On days when the lineup offered no reprieve from awesomeness we went hungry or bought stuff and wasted food we didn't cook. We'll do it the same way (bring food), but not because it is logistically easy. I am able bodied and youngish, and it is a good "healthful" walk. There is also usually a mini-Shakedown collection of vendors that is mid-way between Forest and the main field...not nearly the quality of food as the field, but open late if you need something.

Your much larger existential crisis will present itself when the Oak Ridge Stage is drawing to a close each evening. You can BYOB to the Blue Ridge Bowl and Woods stages. Meaning you need to trek back, pack-up your late night supplies quickly and trek to where you are going to start your late night. Given the late night quality this year, would not shock me to see some pretty substantial herds of people leaving Ween and (dare I say) even Phish to supply-up and get a nice spot for EOTO and Circles Around the Sun on Thursday/Friday.

Welcome! We would generally have Bloody's and cook some breakfast then catch the BRB morning show. Then we would head back to camp and have some lunch eats (sandwiches) and lounge a bit before heading back to the venue. Never saw the opening act on the main stage. I think there is a short break between BRB and Main Stage but not sure how long.

Not sure if we are even going to bother with cooking breakfast this year. Just take no hassle breakfast food. The problem is we camp with a biggish group and there are differing opinions on the subject. I like cooking for a group in the morning but it's getting to be a pain.

Also we ran into some folks who had bought never filled tubes of sun screen which they filled with liquor.  I think they found them on eBay.

Shhhh. We all have smuggling skills but we refrain from disclosing them or, poof! they won't work anymore. Little pitchers have big ears.

Thanks for all of the insight! I'm definitely going to bring some wine bags and Fireball (LMAO) now comes in a bag. I will plan on sticking around for the whole day and eat inside the venue the first day, then adjust accordingly.

Glad to hear many other folks are going the same route as me with food. I was planning to do coffee and breakfast sammies in the morning, which only requires a single propane burner. Trucked a cooler full of food and a grill to a festival last year - do not want to repeat again this year.

Rainbows...cool. Wilco...not so much.

I second the easy breakfast foods (instant oatmeal/fruit) and lots of lunch/snack foods. Eat breakfast and lunch at camp, then head in for the duration. Food on site is great and not extortionately priced. Beer is pricey, but they have some high alcohol options if needed. Given it is a marathon rather than a sprint, i never seem to get to the whiskey, even after having smuggled it in. Peaking (read puking) too soon is for the bros.

But...but...bacon! You must have bacon. My daughter (veteran of 'roo and allgood) instructed me to make bacon for my neighbors if I snored. I did, so I did, and it preserved peace in the neighborhood.

All that stuff goes up to heaven when you cook it outdoors, and pleases the nostrils of the creator of the universe, who cannot be harmed by same. It only remains with the food when cooked inside, which in turn displeases said creator, and hence the harm to mortals.
