New Virginia Law Regarding Those Fake Service Dogs.

The terminology I usually see employed is "Emotional Support Animals."  I'm fine if people need a service dog.  And have a real, trained service dogs.  I've also said unambiguously I don't think criminalizing this sort of conduct is the answer (regardless of whether it applies in this particular case).

What I'm not fine with is people bringing these "Emotional Support Animals," which are totally untrained, uncertified pets, into a situation as chaotic as a music festival.  It is cruel to the dogs and disrespectful towards their fellow patrons.  I saw some people w/ their dogs on the field last year and they were terrified.  They were also in the way and wrapping themselves around people.

If people are really so emotionally screwed up and anxious that they are unable to function without an animal with them all the time then they need to focus on lifestyle management, as being spun out at a music festival at 4 AM is outweighing the benefit they might get from their animal by multitudes.  

I'm sure that makes me an intolerant asshole, but I'm willing to wear that badge.

That's actually a real life problem; I read about a woman with a very allergic child who had problems when a dog or some other pet had been riding around in the same grocery cart she used.  She shouldn't have to wipe down a grocery cart at the grocery store just b/c someone wants to take their pet to the store or other public places.
