Just read that myself. Really doesn't shed any new light, other than the fact that the rotating part of the stage will be ~56 ft in diameter.

It's the first place I saw that Thursday doesn't start until 7:30. But, working and drinking have been taking priority to my internet stalking, unfortunately.

Sure looks to me like he's making preemptive strikes against complaints of moving away from jam bands. Cements our tentative decision to have Lockn IV be our last.

Looks like I don't understand the market. I thought that there was pretty good money in the jam band scene. Seems like that market was what Lockn was tailored for the first 3 years. Maybe I had his philosophy all wrong too. No, I get the money driven model, but that I/we were his market. Oh well, it's their festival but almost 3000 miles is too far for me without his legendary lineups

He said the same in the Facebook Q&A in april and that VIP viewing would be on the side, but said it was hard to describe how they were doing it. Sounded more like it will by the way L1 did it, except SVIP would have its own viewing area, but gave no specifics where that I can recall.

On the two Roo stages that have VIP viewing, they are pie shape areas off to the side of the stage. Lesser view, but lesser crowded. My uninformed guess is that Lockn will be similar this year, or perhaps platforms like at L1.
He said the same in the Facebook Q&A in april and that VIP viewing would be on the side, but said it was hard to describe how they were doing it. I thought all y'all were joking when you were talking about a turntable stage. I don't even want to think about the cost of that and the myriad opportunities for fuckage. I guess if it gets stuck we'll all have to run around behind the stage to see every other band.

How far off to the side? i mean are they still in the cone / area where the sounds is mixed right? I know last year off to the side the sound wasn't working for me at all. I hope they give some clarification cause the viewing area is the only reason I got VIP. So all those "holes to fill" I have been looking at on Thursday's bill, are more than likely NOT going to get plugged because of the 7:30 start. Dayum folks...Yesterday I was pretty smug thinking all of us here that committed to getting in early, would be relaxed and ready to watch some great music early on Thursday. Geez...maybe I should volunteer my time to help get fellow RV'ers setup, parked, un-packed or whateva'. Looks like we will have some time on our hands on Thursday. Lot's of it.
Interesting article. He's right...alot of folks are renting RV's that really have no idea how to drive em or are experienced in their use. Not their fault, but I can def see where that can be a compounding issue. Especially the ones that break down. Interesting to hear the logistics side of getting 20k plus people into a festival.
I promise, I will not reach down to un-plug the pee trough H2O pump, to charge my stupid iPhone!

[Editor’s Note: VIP viewing will still be available, however, the setup has been reconfigured and placed in another area from where it was last year. This will allow for better viewing overall from both VIP and GA attendees.]

In theory they say it can be manually turned by 6 guys. So, they are saying there are contingencies. I don't know enough about it to have an informed opinion one way or another.

I think other major festivals have employed this before, I feel like i've read about it at Coachella and some other places like that but could be wrong.

I'm curious as to who is making the stage. A company in our county always construct them for big events (Super Bowl, awards shows, festivals, etc), they always put out a local press release when they do. They're considered the best in the business. Maybe I can make a few phone calls and see if they're making the Lockn' stage? Maybe I could get some info on how it's made. Yes used a turntable stage on tour in 1978. Don't know the mechanics but it worked. All seats were good seats.

I read the Sarah Bourque article but didn't see a reference to a move away from Jam Bands. He did discuss that H.O.R.D.E. moved away from that format and he caught flak for it. He was kinda defending that call. Is this the connection or did I miss something completely? BTW - I did re-read but could still have missed it twice.

About the not going next year....It has every bit as much to do with the date change as with this year's lineup. If the dates stay in August, I just can't even consider it next year. The only reason we have tickets for this year is because the date change came after we bought them. I've been ready to sell for months. Worf just finally got on board with it. Re: Turntable stage, Merryland Fest just used the new one constructed @ Merriweather. No issues, was a great way to run it. Next band was up in five minutes. Some of them were tuning as the stage rotated. very cool looking.

I was at Merryland and the Turntable stage was just installed THAT day. They had just completed it in the AM. worked perfectly. Absolutely perfect.
