On the flip side, just like a smack addict chasing that next hit, I am still chasing that dragon. Nothing came close to that for me this year, and maybe never will. Sure there were great sets of music this year but nothing like the Holy Quattro. I should probably just lower my expectations but DAMN that shit was good!!

Would you believe that essay has one like? I cross-post it on here and intelligent people are like, "Good job, worf!" I put it on there and it's "tl;dr LOL!"
Even if it's not that good, it's obvious that I worked hard on it.

While I loved that segment and thought it was the best of that year, there has been many better ones both before and since IMO.

Many better ones? Curious to know some details. Comes down to a matter of taste, but I am interested as to what you think.

I would say that most of the headliners every other year were better. 2015 was a great year, but I thought the best acts were not the headliners (Panic, TTB, Billy & the Kids, the latenight shows). Mad Dogs was the best of a group of relatively weak headliners (Phil w/ Santana, Robert Plant repeating songs on Sunday that he played on Saturday) and then of course the first night was cancelled. Jefferson Airplane was cool, but was basically a novelty act.
Only point I'm trying to make is that while this segment was awesome, I don't think it was the top of the mountain that can never be reached again. For me that will always be people playing original music.

Further, they were working from a masterpiece to begin with. And then, the talent to direct such a large band of thrown-together players (as was the case in the original) is something to admire; it could have been disjointed or base level.
Of course I'm not arguing or disagreeing with you; it's all personal taste, opinion and judgment, but just saying why I join in the sentiment that it was the best.day.ever.

Do many in the audience, who clearly like solid music, in their 20's or even 30's, even those tuned in, know it?
More interesting, if you sat down a 20-40 year old, who likes solid music but never heard MD&E, and played it, or even showed the movie (which is really cool BTW), would they fall all over it?

I think that nostalgia can be a big part of how we experience music. That being said I was not as familiar with the MD&E at the time of the show and it just blew me away, and I think that my 17 year old son was even more taken by the music. This summer we were out in San Francisco and my 14 year old daughter picked up a mint condition copy of MD&E. My son was busy flipping through the Jazz section when she discovered it. He wasn't too happy at first, but for now they are under one roof and sharing is not an issue.

But for me personally, I'd rather just see TTB tear it up like they did this year at Lockn. It is cool that they've continued playing a few of the songs from MD&E since then too though.

My dad owned the MD&E album. I kind of knew it. It was before my coming of age and never hit as much as some other (Beatles, Stones, GD obviously, Airplane) music of that era. I tried to take my dad to the Leon Russell pre-Lockn show but he was having some health issues and we didn't make it.
I think MD&E was one of the top 5 musical experiences of my life. Emphasis is on the experience as much as the music, though. It was incredible to see so many of the original performers up there, sharing the stage and reliving an important moment in their life. Not even so much the Leon Russell and Rita Hayworth, but the Claudia Lennear (who sort of left the music industry under duress--see 30 ft. to Stardom) and the other people who didn't have a long, successful starring role. Musically, it was good or very good, but there are definitely some rough spots when I re-listen to the set. It just meant so much for the people up there (And even the younger musicians who gathered by the side of the stage to watch--Eric Krasno watched a good bit from the wings, for just one example). Incredibly compelling as an experience.
I do get a little annoyed that people keep suggesting TTB should play tribute sets...they are awesome on their own and I want to see that.
