Ever consider how nasty restaurant ketchup is, inside and out?
First, they refill the bottles, so they never get completely empty or washed inside. The bottom inch may be years old. Luckily there's so much vinegar and acid in it that it doesn't go toxic easily, but it can get rancid.
Second, every patron before you puts his grimy hands all over the bottle, often while he's eating his fries and burger with those hands, licking his fingers and who knows what else. You put your hands all over the bottle and then eat your fries and burger with your hands. And the outside of that bottle never gets washed.
