Partying vs Enjoying

The music is my main focus. I have to make up for missed years. Partying is definitely part of the attraction to the whole festival experience for me, but I try to pace myself somewhat so I'll hopefully have some fantastic memories to recall when I'm no longer able to attend such events. Having a connection to this crazy bunch is pure icing on the cake!

I'm there for the music. I'm also there for the party with some of my favorite people in the world. The music definitely isn't background noise to socialize we are all there to dance and get down. I go to shows as the sober driver all the time I have a great time. But it's hard to not take the opportunity to let loose and be wild. So I geuss what I'm trying to say is I'll be lit but I won't be talking.

Just go toward the light!  When you get there, got toward the next light!

I respectfully disagree. It's obvious for many it's a scene, a chance to be seen, and brag about how fk'd up one got.

I made a point of saying I was being non-judgemental and I meant it, but I don't for a second believe the vast majority of festival goers are maintaining a light buzz in order to really take note of each set and discuss the finer points of each act.

Music.

I think the question is better framed:
A. hang around the camp
B. get up and see the bands

You can "party" without music but music-less "jamming" sounds kind of unpleasant.

I' go for music but not to discuss finer points of the sets. I go to dance and feel the music and close my eyes and be whole for a bit. I can't tell you what phish played other than Harry hood on Sunday because it was a huge moment for my son but I can tell you the feelings I dealt with and emotions I felt while dancing through their set.

I've done Lockn 2 sober and 7 months pregnant and I can't remember the sets then either. It's not my strong suit. But I can tell you I cried during the Tedeschi set. I am emotionally tied to music.

So I guess I'm saying being there for the music is subjective to the listener.

I think it is more a matter of the B'roo crowd in MUCH younger than the Lockn crowd. For the most part the Lockn crowd is been there, done that, know how to handle my shit versus ooohhh what does this do? And there are different expectations going in. If you go to B'roo expecting the Lockn experience you will be dissapointed just as you will if you go to Lockn expecting the B'roo experience.

I understand what you mean but I do think the thread title, Partying vs Enjoying, is pejorative. It implies you can do one or the other. Either I can party OR I can enjoy the music. Obviously it is a spectrum as you yourself have indicated. Taken to either extreme it lessens the experience for yourself and everyone else. That is, if you get too caked, are stumbling over people and don't remember who played then you missed out and negatively affected others. If on the other hand you get too focused on the music, are totally insular, not drinking from the cup of fellowship all around you or are being an ass to people around you who are merely enjoying the music with the people they love just because they aren't listening/enjoying up to your standard then again, you missed out and negatively affected others. Admittedly you see more of the former but that is because the later is generally just seething and give you the stink eye. I've been both. Me stumbling wrecked is very visible and not a pretty sight but me being uptight about my personal listening space can be very unpleasant for everyone involved. But like I said I understand what you mean. Is it time to leave yet?

Not that we condone that sort of things. Kids, don't do drugs. Give them to me and I will take care of them. No, not those... yeah that purple stuff and a couple of those...

Lockn is my yearly release. I need this festival every year...with going to school full time and working 3 jobs to pay for it I have been slowly killing myself over the last couple years. Lockn is my my reset switch and a way for me to get rid of all the stress throughout the year. At no other place am I happier then when I'm back home on the farm hanging with family so for me it's the entire experience. I use moderation for the entire festival so I can enjoy the scene, the music and most of all the people!
