No, that one is there for my own edification, and anyone else in the audience who gets the joke. I told my son that some of the parents of my daughters friends will be thinking, "what nice songs", then this will hit.

yeah, the summer songs are just because i like them and it's summer. i didn't include born in the usa but not because it's not patriotic, it's just over played. i included the woody and bob songs just because they are protest songs. just being the usa doesn't make us right, we need to hold ourselves accountable to the standard.

i like the suggestions, don't know monster or REK song, but will check out.

This is the best lyric ever written, hands down, for wanderers and travelers

I'd still vote for Born in the USA. Definitely misused by some, but I love ironic and self critical commentary, so it is a great set of lyrics, and it helps separate the contemplative from the oblivious, so it's great for that purpose!

This is a fairly long but surprisingly interesting article about that song we love to hate, "Afternoon Delight" and why it endures. If you follow music construction, this article explains a number of features to the song and its creation that are rather sophisticated. I believe these features are what makes the song endure; the average listener would not know what he is hearing and why it works, but it explains why this one was so big while there are countless novelty songs that are musically simple and forgettable.

It's also interesting to read about all that goes into a song and that it's not just a simple coffee-house folk song.
