Though we live on the James River, we are up on a hill high enough that it is very unlikely we would experience any flooding on our property. It WILL likely flood all around us, though. Losing power is no big deal for us. We live in the forest and lose power once a month on average. Power lines on poles in the forest guarantees frequent power outages. We just fire up the generator and we have enough power for all our needs need. The big threat for us are the huge trees all around us. With every storm in our neighborhood, neighbors homes are often damaged and even destroyed by downed trees and the city rarely permits taking any trees down. Even in the rare instance they do, the cost of the permit makes tree removal practically prohibitive. Gotta get their money somewhere. Of course, no permit necessary if the storm takes one down and you have to have the trunk removed, etc.. They WILL fine you if you don't remove downed trees in a timely manner, however. Gotta get that money. As someone already pointed out, water outages can also be an issue in Richmond or anywhere else. We have plenty of water and we have really good water filters just in case. Food hoarder that I am, we could eat for months without getting to a grocery store so that won't be an issue. If you run out of food and can get to us, we'll feed you. And The Lizard bought enough beer and hard seltzer yesterday to provide a large crowd with plenty. He must be thinking we'll be socked in for a very long time. LOL! Clean up will be a beast. It always is, even with minor storms around here.

My mom lives in Cape Carteret, just the other side of the Emerald Isle bridge. They are under a mandatory evacuation, so I am heading out their tonight to take their boat off the lift and store it on a trailer, then we are back to Raleigh to watch everyone fight over bottled water. We all lived in Florida for a long time, so no one is freaking out. Hurricane's gonna hurricane.

Very strange turn of events. two models now have it approaching Wilmington NC then creeping for two days just offshore all the way down to Charleston and even below Savannah before crossing the shore and coming inland way south. It's going to rear up those beaches.
