My grandfather gave me a Marlin '92 32-20 that was sold out of the Sears catalog for about $12. Still have it, of course. Almost all of my guns that I still shoot  are at least 50, most 75 years old.

I have to give a nod to this most outstanding book that we all should probably reread every year.

While most think it predicts or describes USSR or China, it's a frightening parallel to Burma, where Orwell was stationed and worked with the police IIRC. There is a great book about it called Finding George Orwell in Burma that had to be written under a pseudonym to protect the author from the Burmese authorities. Most interesting is the cultural erasing, exemplified in the new names which are NOT native or original, but designed to remove historical references.

Like with a lot of older futuristic writing, it was weird when the year 1984 came and went, thinking about what was, and what should never be, at the time.
