Looks like Tom Morellos effort is paying off (for now). If you havent signed on to the petition, please do. The link is in the article. Some festivals still wont commit to banning it.

License plate surveillance and tracking is almost as bad. And government operated drones are turning the "plain view" doctrine on its head.

Also several years ago when the former reporter murdered the WDBJ reporters at SML the murderer was caught in Northern VA because of the license plate surveillance. Technology is not always a bad thing.

There's other ways to fight crime then to have the ability to track every driver on the road and be able to share that information with anyone. And just as there are arguments supporting license plate technology as you mention, similar arguments can be made for the facial recognition software. So if you support one, you are essentially supporting it all IMO.License plate surveillance in not such a bad thing. Of course technology isn't always bad. Even facial recognition at a music festival might catch a child molester, terrorist or drug dealer. And regardless of the fact that I am not doing anything wrong, I don't want the government or a person/corporation knowing where I am going, even if the watcher isn't using the technology for harm. I also don't trust the government or entity with the capacity always to use it for good. Machines shouldn't be calling police to report people.
The technology has the real and immediate risk of catching too many dolphins with the tuna.

Facial recognition is really not difficult to defeat (especially at a festival).
Have 3 eyes completely confuses it - no way for it to tell who you are or even if you're human. So get some of these stickers and put one on your forehead. 
I understand having vertical stripes on your face also defeats it, I hear, and it can't get through "dazzle" painting at all:

I must admit to some amusement about this thread. I wonder how many of the people outraged about this (And not just here...):
1. Turned off their cellphones before they left home for the festival, and kept it off for the entire festival until they returned home?
2. Paid cash for their ticket?
3. Did not post on Facebook or Instagram?
4. Didn't use EZ Pass for tolls on the way?
5. Didn't post on this board? (BBIW you know!) 
How many were willing to sacrifice these in the name of personal privacy?
Americans are very willing to sacrifice privacy on the altar of convenience. If the government wanted to put microphones in your home, there would be revolution. But people will pay to put mics in their home if they can get recipes, sports scores and the TV schedule without leaving their chair.
I personally don't care who knows I go to music festivals. (At least right now...) If that software catches a terrorist or armed wacko before they they strike, then I am all for it. How far does that extend? I really don't know where my limits are... But it seems silly to fret about this particular application when you can be tracked in so many cheaper and easier ways.

But I agree with your points, although it is always dangerous to raise "If it saves one life, it's worth it" because usually it's not.
(And if I understand cellular technology correctly, any cell phone can be tracked by which cell towers your phone is connected to, not anything in the phone software. But I am no expert.)
