In the past, that's why they fill the camp areas from farthest away to closest, prohibit vehicle movement and won't let a late-comer drive to your area. With darker evenings in the fall it may be hard to have people driving in on the same paths people are walking to the show field. But they know this and will work it out to accommodate as many as they can. Plus we have a full moon Thursday. Howl! Of course--a monkey doesn't let go of one branch before he has a hand on another. But might be a good time to explore whether you can move your reservation, make a second reservation, etc. to know the process when the time comes. I know this is all speculation, but I am trying to figure out a few things just in case this is the new date. If this is the new date, I might have to fly in, so my question is, what time do they stop letting people in on Thursday. If I had to fly, I wouldn't arrive into Charlottesville until probably 9 PM and wouldn't be able to enter Lockn' until probably 11 at night. Guessing if I were to make it work, I would have to enter Friday. Just wondering if it would be possible to enter the fest that late on Thurs. Any help with this is appreciated, and sorry I didn't search this question in another thread.

Leaving details to the Lockn long-time vets and experts (whether commentary, or actual organizational planning), but there is a possibility that logistics could be wisely tweaked and adjusted to some degree to adjust for school and work season constraints that patrons would have in October, such as shorter leave time available.
I do know this from real life observation: there is a very major safety conflict to allow late night vehicle entry deep into the site. I wonder if there may be areas right out by the entry location where they could park people later in the evening and maintain safety. It's a tough issue.
I'll stop right here before I dig a hole for myself, but just some thoughts.

It would be the first ever October Lockn'. Weather in October is pretty iffy. One year it got downright cold in September at night. But sometimes the first week in October is pretty warm.

To answer your questions at Lockn #3, you could enter pretty much 24/7. There was always somebody at that camping/general entrance ( the one by the box office). I had to meet a friend up there on Friday night who flew & didn’t get to the farm til 1:00am. We walked away from Umphrey’s to go meet him cause I had his ticket. I’ll say this, after the main rush to enter the searches get a more tight. You make have a real Sheriff Deputy do it. Maybe not. But be cool in late entry. If you roll clean then no worries. That was the only year that I’ve had any experience with that situation. Every other year I been in line at sun up waiting to roll in & never came back to the gate.

LOCKN’ FAMILY,
We hope you are staying safe and healthy, and continuing to look out for one another. The last few weeks have been heartbreaking, and we’d like first to take a moment to thank all of the healthcare and other essential workers in our communities who are helping others to make it through these challenging times — thank you.
We know the world has changed, but one thing has been made clear — even though this pandemic has separated us physically, we are all in this together. Reflecting on how we miss being with our friends, sharing music, dancing, hugging, in celebration, helps us feel that spark of joy even while we are waiting for the world to start up again.
In that spirit, with the support of our artists and partners, we believe it is in everyone’s best interest to postpone LOCKN’ 2020 until the fall, so the 8th edition of LOCKN’ Festival is now scheduled to take place October 1-4, 2020.
We are actively working with artists to reschedule the festival. The lineup and additional ticket information, including our refund policy, will be announced as soon as it is finalized. In the meantime, know that all previously purchased tickets, camping, parking, and early entry passes will be honored on the new dates.
We sincerely appreciate your patience and support as we work through this unprecedented challenge and the many moving parts involved in moving the festival dates.
We also want to make you aware that we are working on new health and safety protocols, which will continue to evolve as new guidelines are issued by public health authorities, to ensure the festival is safe and comfortable for everyone to attend. These may include reducing our overall capacity and increasing the amount of space allocated for campsites.
We really want to make LOCKN’ 8 happen in 2020. With your help and support, we will make sure the road to LOCKN’ continues.

Well, we hadn't even bought our tickets yet, so I think now we'll wait to see the new reconfigured lineup to decide for sure if we're going. But, other than the nights being a little cold, I would imagine the daytime weather in early October will be great.
