Final MJ report

Saw this last night. It combines all the things I love: off trail hiking, trespassing...horticulture. Was looking at google maps this morning and there are so many places in the Raleigh area:

WASHINGTON — The Democratic-controlled House on Friday approved a bill to decriminalize and tax marijuana at the federal level, reversing what supporters called a failed policy of criminalization of pot use and taking steps to address racial disparities in enforcement of federal drug laws.

This is how it's going to happen. The fed gov will take a completely hands off position. More and more states will legalize it. Once enough states have it, they'll legalize it federally. Unfortunately, that's when lobbyists will start throwing money at senators to make shitty laws about it

I think it's inevitable that we see legalization soon. Besides the huge amount of $$, we have not seen the collapse of society where it is legal. I think the straw that will break the legislative dam is the number of jobs it will create. It's an agricultural product that requires labor to grow, trim, process, move, and so on. Those are real jobs. As part of the process, there can be requirements for decent pay and benefits for employees.

It sure would. It would also  open up research collaborations that are caught in that same web.

Last 4 years, the major conference in my field of pesticide residue chemistry has devoted 20% of the sessions to cannabis testing. It's a huge market with old-fashioned wild west rules.

On a related note, Jerry Garcia's family, mainly through daughter Trixie, rolled out a line of cannabis products with hsi name, called Jerry's Hand Picked (some products in the shape of a guitar pick).
