Bruce is 72 - I'm with him - cash it in while you have time left to enjoy the bounty - or use it for whatever purpose you desire.
That's a big chunk of change...

Gives some perspective on the whole copyright thing as well as valuation of music.
One interesting point is that Springsteen's songs, unlike Dylan's, don't lend themselves to covers and other versions; they need Bruce:
<<Let’s do the math. Bruce Springsteen is 72 years old. Is he gonna live another thirty years? Highly doubtful. There are some who live to 102, but very few. So this is the deal of a lifetime, he’s got to take the cash. And let’s not forget, when he and his wife die his heirs will have to pay significant inheritance tax, meaning if Bruce didn’t sell now, his children almost definitely would have to sell upon his death.
So anybody who says Bruce shouldn’t have taken this deal runs on emotion, not fact.
However, the big question is…what will Bruce Springsteen’s music be worth in the future?
Yes, Bruce’s songs are iconic, but you can’t cover “Born to Run,” or “Born in the U.S.A.” Those are records, those are Bruce’s. This isn’t Bob Dylan, or even Paul Simon, with umpteen covers. However, covers are not the only way you can make money on a legacy catalog. Hell, Cadillac offered the Doors $10 million to use “Break on Through” decades ago, and the band turned it down! The price is only going up. And hedge funds don’t invest unless they foresee a HUGE return. They don’t want 5-10%, they’re looking for a huge multiple, just like Bruce.>>

Compatible with TOO's view, Lefsetz suggests that Springsteen's music won't last, so getting out now os a smart move. The investor says he plans to get his money out in 7 years, supporting the short life span of this book, rather than the Beatles.
And although I like Springsteen, he's not the boss of me, either.

What does someone do with new silly big money when they already have silly big money? Bring down concert prices, share with bandmates, charity? Same as sports players, fussing over whether to take 60 million or 75 million. Used to be just about money griping and resentment. Now it is more about, what are you doing to justify taking up your oxygen and space on the planet with that money, with so much misery to be found. It's not a small question.
For those that are not aware, "She's the One" is a top ten near perfect song. Nice slow start, near perfect tormented love song lyrics, rock out ending. Offers amazing live version variations, and turns out can be a great Bo Diddley beat>STO segue. When Sirius 23 has a boring moment, quick flip to 20 to check for STO, and then 22 for Pearl Jam Long Road or good Who covers. Oh, is this in the fact category, or maybe opinion?

Bruce has been in tune with a number of social issues so I expect he'll send money that way, as well as political contributions. Or I should say, continue to. Most of them do these things quietly and/or through foundations they set up.

Blinded By The Light - Mannfred Mann
Because The Night - Patti Smith
Fire - Pointer Sisters
Atlantic City - The Band
Jersey Girl - Tom Waits (jk, it's the other way around)
Never been a big fan my own self. Seems like a hell of a nice feller though, and he's awfully good to his fans. Instead of showing up a half-hour or 45 mins late, he often shows up early and plays solo acoustic until the show proper begins.

I think someone did Atlantic City at the last big Lockn; it fits well with Americana bands like Avetts or Old Crow and sounds like the Band. Pink Cadillac gets covered, note Natalie Cole, but it's a standard rock form song.
Bruce does some covers himself, I think. He did a cool Pete Seger project.
Of the atypical songs, I don't think you can beat The River and the dark soul of the trapped poor that it captures.
I've seen him twice; once in 1975 in a 1500 seat theater and at a shed show about 4 years ago. At 4each, he made you feel like you were welcome to go have a beer with him afterwards. I call him genuine.

The Band’s Robbie Robertson has joined the growing catalog-sale party and sold his music publishing, recorded interests and name, image & likeness rights to Iconoclast, a new firm founded by Olivier Chastan, the former CEO of Irving Azoff’s Iconic Artists Group. The news was first reported by Music Business Worldwide.
The acquisition covers Robertson’s entire six-decade career, from his early 1960s compositions with early outfits like the Hawks to his classic songs with the Band to his solo and film soundtrack material.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but sources tell Variety the deal was for around $25 million, for a catalog including such iconic songs as “Up on Cripple Creek,” “The Shape I’m In,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” and more.
The share is smaller on “The Weight,” possibly Robertson’s most classic song, since the publishing on that song and others from the Band’s classic 1968 debut album is owned by Bob Dylan — a move Robertson has pinned on the late Albert Grossman, who managed both acts at the time — although Robertson retained his writer’s share. Dylan’s ownership was revealed as part of his nearly $400 million publishing-catalog sale to Universal in 2020.
