yeah! I would much rather be partying in the field in the wee hours instead morning through afternoon. The Revivalist is one of my favorite undercards of the weekend so I don't wanna miss that. Its like Lockn repaid me with the schedule those year. I love Keller but never seen him live. I was in the party waiting lot and missed his set last year so that bummed me a little. Lockn this year gives me three Grateful sets this year and none on Thursday. can't wait for some Grateful Grass in the mornings. Then have Keller take us to church on Sunday? Too Kool

I was one of the tortured souls of the field of hell, we arrived around 7:45-8:00 Thursday morning last year. Not complaining too much after hearing of so much worse but we finally had our car parked and all of our stuff up (preferred tent only last year) by 3:30, so we caught the music and that was great, but we still waited, and I remember watching from that field a stream of lights and people who had waited all day to get in still sitting there watching what they paid for happen without them there (it always does, but it doesn't diminish the crap feeling you have while it's happening)
So with that in mind, we decided to leave here from Upstate South Carolina around 4:30-5:00 on Wednesday, it's a 5 1/2 hour drive, but with 5 oclock traffic on i-85 and a short stop in rock hill and of course charlotte, it could be pushing a 7-8 hour drive. either which way we will be arriving around 10:30PM Wednesday-12:00AM Thursday. Anybody else gonna be riding in around this time? Think access to the field will be open or is this going to be a go hang in the local walmart till the gate opens thing?

From what I have been hearing lately, if I were you I wouldn't come too early unless you like to drive around in circles, or hang out at Walmart. Also the Food Lion up the road doesn't sound too friendly of a place to hang.
I am about an hour north of Asheville NC, and my travel time is about 4.5 hrs. I am dying to hit the road really early, but I know if I did I would be hanging around at a Walmart in Lynchburg for a few hours. Walmart's just aren't my idea of having fun, but I will stop for any last minute items if need be and then hit the road again.
To be safe, I am thinking of arriving at the site somewhere around 4am. and looking at the situation at hand. My son is going to meet me at Will Call so he can pick up the Media access creds. He should be in the vicinity around the same time.

With bands starting at 4 it seems to me that a noon arrival makes more sense than a dawn crush. It's just a pig moving through a python. Certainly if I had a friend's place 20 minutes away (as OP does) I'd take the chance on the later arrival. But no one knows until we get there.

Word is that since there isn't going to be a holding pen, and no one is able to park on the side of the road, that the popo is going to be asking people to leave if they come too early.
i dunno, could be true, or it could just be a tactic to keep people from coming too early.

Thanks WilldBill! I am in Greenville, not far from Asheville at all so generally the same route and all, just a hour longer travel here. I was just mainly wondering because we canceled our hotel room in hopes of hitting the place early enough and because of some other logistical issues with some folks we are camping with. We are traveling in a caravan of three cars. We are probably looking at getting there very early, so if anybody else is gonna be rolling into the Arrington area around 11 or midnight wednesday-thursday, let me know. I will obviously be happy to post on the situation for everybody one we arrive, mainly just seeing who else will be around during that time.
Hope everybody is ready, I think this one may top last year, which is saying something!

Looks like you're going up I-77 to I-81, I will be going I-81 too from Bristol to Roanoke and over to Lynchburg then up 29. Just on the northern side of Lynchburg in "Madison Heights" is a Super Walmart where a lot of my people are gonna be at around the time you mentioned. Looks like there will be quite a gathering there.
(btw, I usually switch to BBCode to keep from accidentally inter-quoting.) wow! new word.

Yeah, and you don't need to know any code to do that either, not that there's much of a learning curve for BBcode. The WYSIWYG editor is a bit wonky...
