Dear god no. I've literally been dealing with that nightmare for a year. I don't have the heart to tell Mom they are foreclosing on her house. It's a no recourse loan so they won't even ding her credit.

I still remain optimistic and loyal, but with realistic expectations based on the inherent limitations there, limitations which history has confirmed.

I still remain optimistic and loyal, but with realistic expectations based on the inherent limitations there, limitations which history has confirmed.
I think the move to more permanent installations means a move toward many events over the summer & not just one big one. It allows them more revenue streams. They can be a campground, a wedding venue like Horning’s, etc… they need to make Lockn Farm a venue more so than a Festival. I imagine something similar to Suwannee. There’s no reason they couldn’t host 10-12 events a year. All the shit that goes to Legend’s Valley, and Tumbledown, Domefest, the Billy Strings Revival thing… Lockn needs to own that stuff and have all those things at their venue. Pete needs to leverage the Cap & The Bowls to get bands to commit to bringing their events to Lockn over other spots. Then he needs to get the 40th Anniversary Phish Festival at all cost to ensure a sell out and financial windfall, he needs to book String Cheese for a festival that they curate cause after Phish, they are the safest bet in the scene ( Electric Forest & Hulaween sell out every year), move on from the Grateful Dead unless he can put together a weekend with Phil and Friends & The Wolf Brothers or a Furthur Reunion. He needs to lock down DMB and make Lockn the Gorge of the east coast for them. Instead of trying to appeal to everyone with one lineup, they need to move to just appealing to one audience at a time & provide that audience with an unbelievable time, so that they come back for the “Big Fest” in a few years.

I don’t think Lockn is any more isolated than say… Suwannee, The Gorge or the spots Wakaruska used to be held at. I mean for Suwannee you gotta fly into J-Ville, Valdosta or Atlanta, that’s not down the street from the venue. The Double JJ isn’t near Detroit or Chicago really, so location I feel is a straw man argument. As for getting say Pearl Jam to play, it’s a chance to say fuck you to Ticketmaster, that might be enough on its own. But to get others that can sell sheds on their own, you just gotta up their share. If they can make more off one venue then the next then they’ll play there. It’s on Pete to keep the margins tight, just pay the bills and pass the profits off to artist. He’s got leverage with smaller acts with his venues but for bigger acts it’s gonna take relationships built over time. I mean Manchester, Tennessee is pretty much the middle of nowhere too & it’s done alright.
