You might be all funkified out on thursday after Lettuce and Cheese and the Gang....yeah right! But thursday is an easy call for me. If choosing between musicians I've never seen...gotta pick the dude in his 70s.

I remember seeing them late night in Vegas (+Blues Traveler) in the early 90s after a day at the Silver Bowl w/ GD. More recently we have seen Hot Tuna acoustic. They are smooth smooth smooth, true professionals.
I'm curious if anyone else here was at Angels Camp for Furthur Festival 2010...there was the most extraordinary late night jam with Jack n Jorma jamming with Bobby on Rider>Death Don't>Viola Lee
Did you also go to the post-fest 1-day event called Furthurmore? 7 Walkers played.... It was at a private campground near Yosemite.

At some point in the weekend I bumped into Phil and Jill near the acoustic stage where he was jamming with his son, luckily I was carrying a copy of Phil's book and he signed it for me. There wasn't another soul around us and he straight up said "You're lucky, if there was any line/group of people I probably would have left." He rested his hand on my arm while he spoke and signed the book. His fingers were steel.
I didn't make the Furthurmore...but did make Phil's 70th b-day bash which I see you posted about as well!

Oh you're welcome! Yes, we were at Phil's bday, that was really a special night, too. Yes, for Furthur latenight, you are correct that Bobby and Phil played separately, that's how I remember it. We were likely standing very close to you, and I do remember all the smoke. Envious of your moment w/ Phil! That is definitely a night to remember, those kind of spontaneous events just don't happen often. Treasure it!

hot tuna taj would be orgasmic
Taj rolled out from Chicago to LA with some college kid names Ry Cooder and they played as Rising Sons in the LA/SF scene. A recording from the sixties, not released until the 80's IIRC, captures their stuff. On it is Statesboro Blues.
Taj recorded it again and Gregg took the album over to brother Duane who was recuperating from a broken arm from horseback riding. He also took him a bottle of coricedin for a cold. Returned a few days later to find Duane had mastered his new sound--slide--with that bottle and Taj's version of Statesboro Blues. (ref: Muscle Shoals documentary). Gregg and Taj do Statesboro Blues on Gregg's new album "all my friends."
Despite appearances Taj is no cardboard cut-out of an Old Black Blues Man. college educated (i heard Amherst) and knows music theory cold. But he captures the OBBM look with his big hat and signature head shake. His sound is country blues, not city blues.
Although this show will be acoustic his electric stuff is better I think. He does a great cover of Giant Step (the Monkees--us old dogs know it) which is a Mike Nesmith tune, and 6 days on the road.
if I end up coming Thursday night it would only--and I mean only--to see Taj again.

This is how I feel about people who need to shout conversations to each other during quieter acoustic performances.
