There are advantages to letting go of alcohol service. I for one would definitely pay extra for being able to BYOB. The Bewbs was a stab at the VABC. formal alcohol service brings Alcohol enforcement. BYOB does not bring alcohol enforcement.

again its an elbow to the VA ABC. because of a topless sunbather. The point is with BYOB there is more FREEDOM. More Freedom just wouldn't be free. Alcohol is a major revenue stream. There would have to be incentive AKA higher ticket prices. I felt it to be an honest and worthy question.

I really don't think this is viable.
In addition to lost vendor sales, a "BYOB" type event would cost a ridiculous amount of money to insure (and they're obviously trying to save on that already with the Tent Only camping). It would likely cost them (and subsequently, us) a lot more than $100 per person.
Moreover, I'm not sure State and local officials would approve permits for a weekend long music festival with absolutely zero alcohol regulation.

what a pointless question (the first part; the second is almost as ridiculous).
Financial and regulatory considerations kill the notion.
the revenues from all sales but esp. alcohol plus the sponsorship/promotion is what drives the festival. despite the vibe the promoters like to give, this is not a charity or community, it is a business. The song they want to hear is Estimated Profit. And nothing wrong with that in America.
no way there would be open alcohol consumption allowed at a public event for many reasons.

Many small fests are BYOB. The festival we are going to this weekend quit having a beer sponsor/beer tent beer/sales a few years ago. It can be done. I bet that the liability insurance does go up disproportionately to the license cost and the revenue generated at a smaller fest is often not large enough to offset the licenses. But it can be done.
Lockn won't do it tho. They are really promoting this as a partnership between them and Nelson County. The breweries of Nelson County are very much at the forefront of that partnership.
I WISH I could pay $100 extra and BYOB. I love the small fest experience of strolling up to the stage with my own beer.

I really enjoy beer but I honestly don't care about the beer sales at the fest. I'll enjoy a few at the campsite, either before or during dinner break. I am there to listen to the music and will be drinking very moderately. Just a few is just enough.

Dark Star Orchestras festival the "Dark star Jubilee" was byob. didn't go, but I like the idea. I'm not a big drinker either way, so whatever. Though having a flask a whiskey on me is always nice.

Not me. Last year I bet I only had 8 beers in the venue area. Music was to good to ever leave my spot.

Many of the smaller "grassroots" festivals are indeed BYOB. Pink Moon, Camp Barefoot, rooster Walk, Front porch, Not fade away. etc etc etc. And, It just so happens that at those festivals the "girls" are free. A freedom not afforded to Alcohol licensed events. Big money cash grab isn't the only festival experience left in America. I say THANK YOU to those promoters. Granted they couldnt possibly afford such a lineup or even one of the "after 7pm" acts.
