I'm no electrician, but I believe the 12 volts is the size of the pipe, and the amps is the amount in the pipe.

volts x amps = watts....
exactly, conversely Watts (power)/ volts = Amps...that my friends is the crux of the matter, or....Ohms law.

Yep. I'm a big do-it-yourself guy. I use that formula above when I rewired the toilets at home.

Are your toilets wired for 110 or 220? Or would that be 420?

actually 110, and 220v doesn't commonly exist...if you plug a digital meter into you favorite receptacle, you will a reading of something in the neighborhood of 118-122...naturally if you read device that carries a (220) circuit, you will find get a reading somewhere like 230-240...So when talking about you common residential electric circuits we refer to them as 120 and 240v.....thank you.
ps. if you are going to talk about commercial applications, then that is a whole other scenario, assuming you are also considering the possibility of a three phase service in delta config, which adds a curveball in the form of 277v...have fun stay away from the combo of water and electric...leave that to the pros, like myself......
