Flags in the Concert Area
Post by gregw8705 on Sept 10, 2014 16:26:00 GMT -5
I think it's a great idea as I definitely lost my crew a few times this weekend and would have loved to have a flag to find them. Did they bother anyone?

Yeah I didn't get why there would be five flags up within one small area. If someone else has a flag right near you then just take your own down and use theirs.

show. Then in come huge carboard cut out heads blocking everything. I mean, it's a concert, not mardigras or nascar. I was about to
perform random acts of something and it weren't kindness.
people who think they have to call attention to themselves like that annoy the crap out of me. Bill, I'll contribute the blindfold and
cigarette.
it's not the same as marking a spot with something below eye level, or above and small; that's fine. Especially with Verizon cancelled.
And that was not the purpose of these displays.
I'd like to see Lockn management get in there, send the flags to the side fence, and also all the chairs from soundboard forward, and
all shade structures after dark. before dark, none of those open-faced tents (even saw regular tents) either.
I like blankets spread on the ground b/c they allow me to wipe the red clay and porta-potty mung off my shoes, and provide a comfortable
place to walk. Palm fronds coming into Jerusalem. But late night they became like kudzu winding around my ankles.

I was literally right beside the seahorse brigade, those guys fucking sucked. The flags weren't too bad but those Elvis cutouts were the worst

I was with a flag crowd for a good bit and it made it so much easier. They had a very high flag so hopefully it wasn't too intrusive. I use the light technique, we wrapped a friend of ours in battery powered lights and she had to flip them like 5 minutes after someone left to give a beacon for their return.

For crying out loud, the flags, and the chairs, and all the sometimes inconvenient nuances are all just part of the festival experience.
I've been going to shows for over 40 years, and back then there were no flags. There were no chairs. You sat on the ground next to piles of garbage and beer bottles that were 3 foot high and tried to remember the shapes of certain garbage piles so you had some sort of landmark to follow! Sometimes if ya had to piss really bad, you pissed where ever you could find a place, if any!
Today's festivals are most definetly a lot better run and managed than they were years ago and I'm sure some of the older folks here can attest to that. I'm not putting my past experiences down, I'm just saying that there has been improvement in leaps and bounds over yester year's concerts and festivals.
Sure I had flags in my way, and I tripped over quite a few chairs during all of this, but if it wasn't for some of the flags I would have never found my way back to my people. I for one am glad there was flags. Flags add to the festival atmosphere just as much as everything else you see and experience at a venue of this size. I can guarantee that if the rules next year stated that flags were forbidden, people would still find something else to fuckin' whine about! Like the blankets, or people sprawled out sleeping or some other shit.
Hey, I agree everyone is entitled to have a good time after spending a lot of their own money, but when you're dealing with that many people all crowded together for one weekend, ya gotta either make some sacrifices, or just stay home with mom! This shit aint for the faint hearted or the weak spirited and if people started to realize that this whole freakin' world doesn't revolve around them, then they would probably have a better time.
Personally I can find more good things to say about my two Lockn experiences, then to sit here and waste everybody elses time whining about the little shit.
