First you don't like country, now you don't like rock. Think Zappa. Not the same exact sound, but sick jams and naughty lyrics - you'll dig it.
Don't let their early stuff, or throwaway tracks that ended up the MTV fool ya. Start with Quebec. It's their second to last studio album, I believe, but it's very accessible. Work your way backward from there.
They have no genre, unless it's every genre. Once they decided to make a country & western album just for fun, and it's some of the best (and most hilarious) country I've heard.

The line up from years past were always great. So far I am kind of regretting not opting for peach or wane.
I have never got to see Phish live, so that is a plus.
No matter how hard I try I just can not get excited about Ween.
Traveling 10 hours taking off of work for a week and renting an RV is a bit pricey for the line up so far.
Dead and Company or maybe Supernova/Santana would make it all worth it.

You won't like them Bill. They expressly tell you to resist all the urges that make you want to go out and kill.

For the past 17 years every wish I have made on a shooting star, birthday candle blow out and dandelion puff,
was that Grateful Dead would get back together and play a festival with Phish and have them take turns opening for each other.
Of course with me in attendance.
If this happens I can honestly say my life would be complete and there isn't anything else I could want or expect out of it.
*finger crossed*

Ten plus hour drive already mapped out.
Not much that could keep me from coming.
Just hope it will be worth the trip.

Speaking solely for my own personal tastes, I am incredibly excited about this lineup.
Can't believe they landed Phish. I mean, I can believe it, but I'm still surprised by it. Their presence will definitely change the dynamic of the festival (more on that in another thread), but I think it is a positive for both this year and the future. Most people in the jam-community already have an opinion one way or the other on Phish, and I realize I can't sway their detractors. But I must point out that Phish has been on fire for the last 18 months or so. They've arguably hit a second high-water mark for their careers and I'm happy to catch any show I can while they are on this wave.
I've advocated for My Morning Jacket in years past and I genuinely think they are the perfect band for this festival. My Morning Jacket is one of the best live bands on the planet right now. Saw 'em three times last year, all kick-ass shows. They combine elements of classic rock with folk and jam influences to form a blissful, high-energy, love-inducing sound. If you are unfamiliar with them, I highly recommend you give them an honest listen. Jim James is a mystical man.
I'm not crazy about Ween as a "Headliner," but I get it. Their recent shows in Colorado were a big deal and they were very well received. Ween is a great band, if even they aren't my cup of tea. Really excited by the collaboration potential with Phish . . . perhaps "Roses Are Free" serves as the "multi-stage jam" vehicle that was Peter Shapiro teased when Lockn' was founded.
Holy Balls this undercard.
If we didn't have Phish and Jacket, I'd still be incredibly stoked on this rest of this lineup.
Veteran favorites Umphrey's, CRB, and TTB are back, which is awesome news in and of itself.
Two latenight shows from JRAD?! Two?! Someone will be carrying be back to the tent on at least one of those nights.
I am always in on Keller. Hopefully they keep the tradition of "wake-up with K-Dub" going in 2016.
Galactic and Lettuce amplify the funk factor, and it is proven scientific fact that you cannot have too much funk.
Speaking of funk, do not sleep on Vulfpeck. Highly, highly recommended.
If they didn't add another band to this festival, I'd be totally happy with the lineup as it is. Of course, we know that there is plenty more to come. I'm looking forward to seeing what else they've got in the works here.
Honestly, I don't see Dead & Co. in the cards. Their tour ends well before Lockn' and I wouldn't be shocked to find out that Bonnaroo got them on some sort of festival-exclusive contract. Moreover, Peter Shapiro hasn't been involved in the promotion of their gigs. I think a Phil and Friends set is much more likely. Of course, I'd love to be wrong.

First, based on past years this is about 1/2 the lineup. I expect a lot more to come. Surprised Phil and Friends were not on the initial release.
Headliners...
I have listened to some Phish. I like Phish, I don't love them. I've never seen them live, so I am excited to see them
I have listened to Ween, but only a little bit two years ago, when Freeman played Lockn, to try to get some idea. I didn't really like it, but I'll certainly try again.
MMJ--I tried to listen to them a little bit because I know they are popular and having a following among people who like similar music to me. I didn't really get into it, but I didn't hate it either, so I'm glad to get a chance to see them live.
So overall the Headliners are kind of Meh for me. I am a Deadhead at heart, so I want some Dead and Co, Phil and Friends, Ratdog, etc.
On the undercard...
Bands I love---JRAD, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gary Clark Jr., Grateful Grass, Grateful Gospel, Chris Robinson Brotherhood. All of these can really do no wrong. That's a lot to love.
Bands I like--Lettuce, Galactic. I'm not a huge funk fan, but I like a little mixed into my festival. I like Lettuce better than Galactic but they are both good.
Bands I don't like--Really only Umphrey's McGee among those announced. I just find them boring. I know a lot of people like them.
Bands I don't know enough about---Everybody else. I've heard Turkuaz a little big, mostly just playing with bands I like. I thought Twiddle was EDMish, but I don't really know. I see Brandi Carlile playing all these festivals but in my mind I always hear Belinda Carlile singing Heaven is a Place on Earth. All the rest I don't really know at all. So I'll listen with an open mind.
Overall I think it's a little disappointing to me so I'm hoping for some Yarn along with some Dead acts and Cheese to be announced later. But it's still good.

Also, Bobby and Phil, being old, might not be the smart choice for early commitments.
One bottom line: what will sell tickets? Rumor? Speculation? Wishful thinking? Fan tantrums? No. But Phish x 2 will for a big segment; August v. September for the youngsters and parents of school age children; the other listed bands for many Lockn vets (including some of the couple dozen flopping around here).

maybe I'm a bitter traditionalist but I think it is sacrilege to not have Cheese, Dead, or WSP. The thing I've always liked about Lockn is rather than trying to be bonnaroo and give a little bit of everything to everyone they have been content with trying to give everything to a few. I understand the contractual reality of the business and I understand Lockn and Shappy owe me, Chinatownshuffle nothing (although with the likely hundreds and thousands of dollars that have gone from my bank account to shapiros I may have a strong case!) however to me this line up falls short of expectations. If this were any other fest I'd probably consider a line up with Phish, UM, TTB and more as very solid. however, I'm used to Lockn line ups blowing me away and leaving me with the "no way I'm missing his sentiment" and this one is just "oh that's cool, I'll go if it's convenient".
Bottom line is this line up doesn't satisfy my palate in the way that past ones have, if it does it for you great and I'm sure you'll have a blast on the farm. If I end up going I'm sure I will too and if not I'll be at Peach and a lot more Dead co so all is fine in the world of music.
Hope there is a lot more to come since this initial release is underwhelming, especially with the long wait. And if anyone has any scoop on dead/cheese/panic additions let me know because I'm itching for something to re-energize my excitement.
This is is a quality line up no doubt but based on my tastes and past years line ups I'm left feeling disappointed. Hope to change my tune soon and regardless I'm sure the fest will be a blast.
