Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
It's fine, I think, to not particularly gravitate toward a given band, no matterhow popular they are. I'd never seen MMJ. Learned they were headlining Lockn and so tried listening to their past shows on archive.org and youtube. None of it grabbed me the way other bands have. I wasn't catching on to the big fuss about them, but I figured I'd have my chance to change my mind at Lockn, esp since their reputation is for putting on great visual shows. That much amp'd up volume, to me, is excessive and gratuitous. We decided we didn't want to go anywhere near it. I'd been propped awake though so after packing a mini-chillpak w/ some beverage we ventured over to BRB to get a good seat for Lettuce, since the previous night the crowd for JRAD so overwhelmed us we'd given up waiting for them to start. I suspect a lot of ppl exiting MMJ as described above, could've been the same reason: to get ready for Lettuce, who for me was another first-time experience. I don't have much exposure to all the many bands populating our world these days so I was objectively sizing up MMJ based on the little I'd heard as well as stopping by Infinity Downs en route to BRB and watching Jim JOnes et al from their big screen. The beau remarked he looked like Jeff Lynne from ELO. I like the song "Touch me/ I'll Scream" a lot, just the others aren't my bag. As MMJ keeps producing music I'll keep checking them out from curiosity but plenty other musicians I'm more interested in experiencing if I'm gonna be honest. A lot of people definitely were leaving MMJ early. I loved the MMJ set, never really listened to them before, but don't think it was the best set of lockn - I am admittedly a huge Phish and JRAD fan though. Would be happy to have them back but think its more of an in person type of show for me because they have such a big sound as opposed to something I will listen to at work or at home. Srsly there is something I've begun noticing more that I have sensitive hearing. What seemed "louder" to me and Mike about MMJ was how it sounded from our camp based on earlier listenings from the same vantage point (Twiddle; Vulfpeck). My greatest surprise having to pull out my earplugs was in The Woods for Circles Around the Sun; this clued me in that my eardrums are especially damaged, for I never thought I'd need plugs in that dreamy space with this particular performer but some of the higher notes were affecting me. EDIT: also factoring in we were sitting less than 10 yards from the group standing at the stage and in direct aim of the righthand speaker systems~ Please note: This forum is in no way officially associated with Lockn' Festival or its promoters.

Really the only acceptable answer. But Lettuce is something that happens at every festival basically. The MMJ set was special.

THen my beau and I got burnt out pretty badly by the heat wave during Galactic>HWA> Phil so we hoofed it back to Forest camp and let me doze for a spell. And I'll point out that my guy cared for MMJ's sound less than me even. I was still napping when their first notes blasted the ground under us. Like being on a demolition site or construction zone, I could hear it rattling my tent. It wasn't wind changing direction making it *seem* louder; we'd been able to hear other acts from our tent up til then. This was vibrating the ground under our feet y'all.

Guarantee there were ALOT more arriving than leaving
I was in the GA section that night instead of VIP to hang with friends that day and we were well in front of the sound board. Second half of their set was more room than I have ever seen in GA at a headliner for lockn since the first one.

Everyone should be really conscious of sound levels and protect their hearing. I did not. My hearing took a huge hit riding the speakers at Deep Purple in Dec 72 and I pay for it today. Myself, I didn't find MMJ to be too loud. Louder perhaps but their music needs that to achieve full effect.

Anybody got a link for this? I would think there would be SBD audio out as well since it was live streamed but can't find that either. I got a pretty decent sounding AUD recording but SBD would be great.
