This one comes from L.A. Weekly's music editor, Andy Hermann. I especially like the sentence in the preamble.
What happens if I take both?

As far as it being pointless I disagree. Does it establish a definitive winner that we can award a gold medal to? Of course not. Does it stimulate some music conversation? It seems to be doing just that and I don't think that is pointless. Does it potentially expose someone to music they might be unfamiliar with? It could and has, me, so I don't see that as pointless. Would it be more better as "20 Really Good Double Albums You Might Want To Listen To and Talk About With Your Friends"? Probably.

Well, just my opinion, obviously.
This list is based around a format that is obsolete. They pretty much acknowledge that in the preamble.
It's like a list of best 8-tracks or best 78s.
But if you like it I am glad.

Normally I write you off as smart assy but this post is: absolutely the best thing you've ever written, entertaining, and very well thought out.

Anyway, we start in the mid sixties and go to what--1992?
Which is when all the best music was recorded anyway, right?

There are only a few examples of a sesquialbum (i.e. one and a half records). Johnny Winter released what would be the first three-sided rock album, Second Winter, on two 12-inch discs, with the flip side of the second disc being blank.

But anyway it's one of the top albums either and is pure jam band, especially Sing Sing Sing. Funny it took 12 years to release.
<<<The Famous 1938 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert by Benny Goodman, Columbia Records catalogue item SL-160, is a two-disc LP of Swing music first issued in 1950. The program it captured has been described as "the single most important jazz or popular music concert in history: jazz's "coming out" party to the world of "respectable" music."[2]
The first ever double album,[citation needed] it was one of the first records of Benny Goodman music issued on the new long-playing format, and one of the first to sell over a million copies. A landmark recording, it was the premiere performance given by a jazz orchestra in the famed Carnegie Hall in New York City. This album was also sold in a set of nine 45 rpm records in the same year by Columbia.>>>
The only double album better than this one--or maybe a tie--is Fillmore East.
I used to have some 78's that were several discs in an album similar to a photo album. The "double album" entry is one Wiki article I have my doubts about.
