Mockn' 2014 Schedule (formerly "I was bored…")
Post by tweezburger on Apr 25, 2014 18:20:42 GMT -5
I tried to use last year's time slots, for the most part….
It was quite a challenge getting the headliners/double performers some sense of balance and made me realize we're pretty much at max capacity, unless they trim the early day slots or move the start times up a bit.
I probably left somebody off so feel free to chime in with any thoughts.

Anyway, I can't find any obvious clues in any big band's website. Neil is only touring Europe this summer; same with Dylan, although both are free that weekend. CSN has a gap from 8/28 to 9/13, but they're very old men and presumably that break is to rest. Petty has jack for shows announced so far, so I guess he's still a wild card. We all know why Phish probably won't be there. Just for fun, I even looked at Steely Dan's schedule - they're playing elsewhere that weekend.
Am I missing anything? If there was room for one more headliner, whom might it be?

[edit: after looking at their tour dates, Dave is in California the Friday and Saturday of Lockn', so nevermind]

I hope you don't mind if I critique it a bit. Your schedule raises some interesting questions.
- I could be mistaken, but I thought I read something that explicitly stated that this year's Rockn' to Lockn' winners would get to perform on the main stage; granted, I haven't fact checked that yet.
- If SCI is on before Wilco then something has gone terribly wrong.
- I'm not sure if any of the acts announced thus far will be at the Triangle stage. If they are, I think it will be in addition to a set at the main stage. I'd love to be wrong, as I think one of the few things Lockn' can do to improve is stepping-up the late night game.
- If Phil and Friends do play the same days as Bobby and Ratdog (which I think is unlikely), Phil and Friends definitely gets higher billing.
Anyway, you did an awesome job. Your mock really lends some perspective to how full our lineup might be. Doesn't seem like there's much room on that schedule. Additions may be sparse from here out.
Do you mind if I change the thread title to "Mockn' Schedule"?
You can say no if you think that's stupid.

Winwood on Sunday makes the most sense. It would allow the maximum amount of rehearsal time.

As for some rankings, I am admittedly a big wilco fluffier (and i won't get into my opinion on SCI) so I'm probably biased in that matchup. Then again I would argue Wilco is a bigger name nationally, plays bigger venues than SCI and I would think that Frey is going to throw them a bone with a later slot on one of their two days. But i also recognize Wilco has some jam credentials to earn, for some people apparently, so maybe they'll get mid afternoon both times.
Still glad this has provoked some conversation. I'm genuinely curious what's going on here because clearly we're getting more timeslots on stage, it would seem….
Anyway it's exciting they added Bustle in your hedgerow today - that could be a crazy campfire at the triangle!

Tweedy guesting on Parks & Rec didn't hurt...

i should say, i spent a good while trying to sort this all out - it wasn't just one and done. t's crazy difficult getting all of these top tier jambands in their normal headlining or early evening slots. So It's tough to give a band like SCI or Wilco much beyond a one night boost, when you've got two nights each from GD family Phil and Bob, not to mention ABB (who knows what gregg requires at this point?), plus widespread who is definitely bigger than SCI in this part of the country. I just don't see how SCI or Wilco competes against any of those guys for a headlining slot unless it's Thursday. I also think if you asked SCI if they were cool playing before wilco they'd all say fuck yeah, especially after del.
I'm personally hoping wilco is going to be linked up with a ratdog show or two setter, given bobby's collab's with them last summer on the Dylan tour. Hell i'ms till holding out hope that MMW will get added, since they're touring europe with Wilco's guitarist right now (and they have a new album out with him that is pure improv next week).
BTW Props to whomever said Del and Pres Hall have an album coming out - forgot about that. I'm sure that could consolidate at least two of the timeslots i listed above into one'
Happy speculation'!

They've toured together too. I caught their act here at home last year. It was, in a word, PHENOMENAL. My only complaint was that it didn't go on long enough. Of course since my first shows were the Dead, I have that complaint often.
