So at Lockn II in 14 I met this kid who just graduated high school and Lockn was his present from his parents. He was an aspiring young (17) guitarist and we hit it off discussing life’s hopes, dreams and goals. He wanted to make a career out of music.
He was accepted at the CU (Boulder) School of Music and graduated this spring. While going to school he founded a band named Jive Tribe. Last spring I had the privilege of seeing him headline the Fox Theater in Boulder (their first headlining gig) and sell it out. 😀
Right now I am in a Colorado converting a passenger bus he bought into a stylish tour bus for their first tour (east coast) in the fall while they are tracking their first album at Scanhope Studio (one of the most premier studios in Colorado).
He helps me from 7 am until noon and then records until about 11 pm. When it gets too hot I go enjoy a beer in the studio which is about 50 feet away and watch them record. Then I go back to work. This is an amazing experience, and I feel so lucky to be a part of it.
The owner of the studio is hosting me (he’s the very talented drummer in Jive Tribe and has been recording major artists for a couple of decades). You should see The who’s Who of music on the studio walls here. The bus I’m converting is right outside my bedroom window and the view from the deck is Redrocks Amphitheater. The other day when lettuce and the Motet played there everything started here because the co-owner of the studio sound engineered the shows live recording and the Motets lead guitarist is my buddy’s guitar teacher.
Jive Tribe’s album will be mastered and produced by the guy who did it for the Grateful Dead. I can’t express how much this experience has moved me...that kid at Lockn has just begun this career and has already made it in the industry. How far he will go I can’t imagine. They are super talented and super hard working and have their own sound which is hard to describe but it’s funky jazzy bluesy jammy melodious with flavor all their own.
Long story short 😀 if you can catch them out east I would highly recommend it. It’s their first tour so most of the shows should be pretty intimate.
