Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
It would be nice if comments on the "official" thread were confined to those actually announced and a second 'wish/speculation" thread would carry all the unfounded and unverified. But I guess with hungry animals, that's asking too much. Pun intended. There are two basic formulae for big solo names at Lockn'. One is for an established band to play a set and then play a second set with the solo--like Trey with TTB; Fogarty and Winwood with WSP. The other is for the solo to join in a "friends" collaboration, usually for two songs, and maybe hang around in the back for the all-band finale. I could see Crosby doing either one; not likely he would have his own set with his own band. Unless, cod forbid, they do "an evening with" solo/duet acoustic snoozer. Total buzz kill. Crosby will be a tough fit because his style is acoustic/vocal, so he'd be swallowed by a band like TTB with Derek's guitar and Susan's strong vocals. So maybe an Americana/newgrass backing or something hand-picked with no prima donnas (looking at you, Phil). "Teach your children" would be kinda sad since it's a staple of FM Oldies stations, but the youths would recognize it. And Jerry played the pedal steel on the album version. If he's on for a good part of a Phil Friends set, pray that Phil behaves this time. Hopefully someone told him about the Santana embarrassment. As for Jeff Beck, I see him in the first set-up with a strong band--love to see him and Herring go to it. And TTB showed us last year with the epic four guitar attack in Layla that they can work in and display a strong lead guitar with the band. Please note: This forum is in no way officially associated with Lockn' Festival or its promoters.

Listened to a podcast with Jen Harstwick, one of Trey's horn players, and he she talked about much rehearsal time Trey and TTB put in for their sets. Also, Oteil and his Friends rehearsed a bit she said.

The 3 big guitarists (and another lesser known one before that) do not do much with the Yardbirds or the material once they moved on. A little dabbling maybe, but setlists show that the guitarists don't do much on that music (they had a variety of interviews and interview questions, and an occasional limited spurt of music on a few reunion tracks, RnR Hall of Fame, etc. But the guitarists just don't do much on the Yardbirds theme. Unfortunate, but they all had so much else in their career. Beck is the best candidate to relive that music, but not too much on that.
HOWEVER, Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty carried on a nice band under the Yardbirds name in the past decade or two, and they did scorching concerts with new members of short or long duration. Very good guitar work by others, in the same blues rock tradition, largely playing the classic solos the big three created. Some little debate on whether that was/is a cover band or the band carrying on, but most fans highly respect this effort by two original members and the rest new members. Chris has stopped the touring for health reasons, Jim carries on with his band. They do a very HOT set of Yardbirds songs, with a few originals from the last 20 years thrown in. They tour to this day - we just saw them in the fall in a small venue, and their show blows you mind for any guitar and Yardbirds fan. If you know the songs, it's a true gift what they perform.
What I am trying to say is, Yardbirds carrying on their tradition rarely involves anything from Clapton, Beck, and Page. I write this long tribute to update folks and out of great respect for "the other ones", McCarty and Dreja, Relf who has passed, and Samwell-Smith who left the band in their prime. It would be really weird and unlikely for Beck to put on a big Yardbirds show, BUT, McCarty's band is still active under that name, smoking hot, and well able to carry that venue for an undercard slot. Beck could sit in with those guys (and should more), but his own Yardbirds set would be way out of character.
Sorry for all the nerdy Yardbirds talk, I'm a nerd on this topic. I LOVE the topic, and would love to see the Yardbirds get an undercard slot at Lockn. Go see them if they play your local area at a small venue!!! Wear your earplugs and bring your air guitar!

Nothing other than people make summer plans. Lots of NE folk choose a fest and then book their short summer around it. A couple that I usually meet down there just bailed for Jerry Jam in NH. A good dozen I know chose the Peach. Lockn can deliver the lineup in May for all I care...I’ll prob still go. But lots of others won’t. Whatever tho...Pete’s choice

This summer will be the last Jerry Jam ending a 25 year run. I went the last two years and I’m in for this summer as well. It’s a great festival in beautiful location. Sorry that this will be the last one.

None of that will stop. It’ll just start on a new thread. There’ll be complaining/praising of the lineup, outrage & joy and rampant speculation about what the “More, Coming Soon” means in the lower corner of the lineup page. But the comraderie will still run strong. Don’t worry about that.
