And I think they overestimate the draw the older acts have on younger audiences (Fogarty, Ann Wilson, Hot Tuna, Edie Brickell, for example). For example, the young people left in droves during the Derek and the Dominoes. Why? Because they all know Layla but few of the other songs on the album, and have never listened to the whole album (or any album) all at once. And some of the songs, if you don't have them etched in your memory, aren't that great to hear now. Personally, it was one of the best musical experiences I've had--but am I the market? Are there 20,000 people like me who will come and camp? Even people in their 50's,and of course younger, don't know Mad Dogs and Englishmen and what that project stood for.
Maybe the focus on "50th Anniversaries" is a mistake. How old were you then?

It's a tough wire to walk for sure. I'm 38 but my musical taste is broad as hell. I go from Carter Family & Hank Williams to STS9 & Shpongle back to Conway Twitty & Tom Petty before ending with Miles Davis and James Brown. So I'm not the target audience either, I just wanna hear good music. I think the best format for Lockn is make Thursday & Friday for the under 40 crowd and then gear it older as the weekend goes on. Have a big late night act for the rage it til sunrise kids each night and a smaller acoustic act for the older sit down crowd too. Bluegrass in the mornings and mid day bands geared for the older crowd while the kids sleep it off. They should steer away from Phish and Dead & Co cause those acts tie up the budget bring in only one kinda crowd. They should book those bands side projects for pre headliner slots and have them be the heavy hitter guest stars. That's the best way to have to cross generational appeal, i think.

I’ll put the 2014 1st Set Thursday Night at the top my Lockn list. The Let’s Go Outside> Sweet Spot> Outside, Inside> Little Hands> Just One Story is so fire, it’ll burn your speakers, melt your face & make you wanna dance. That Friday Set before Phil was a smoker too, though. SCI music is fast, loud & proud. It’s never sad or down, it’s always building & they don’t just get you off once, they keep going & going. You get Keith’s bass lines & smooth voice, Kyle’s funk & craziness, Travis & Hann hold it down, Nershi is a flat top picking garden gnome with fire on his fingertips & Kang... dude is a beast on the Mando, guitar, fiddle, if it’s got Strings he can slay it. Their music is just fun & makes me smile & has for over 20 years. Love that band.

I think it’s mostly rescheduled shows from last year. However the fact the last weekend in June & the 3rd weekend in July are open is very promising. (Those are the typical annual WSP & SCI dates) I think the May dates may be “pie in the sky” but July 4th & after is a real possibility. Since Red Rocks isn’t Live Nation or Ticketmaster they should have more independence with opening & booking. Colorado is pretty conservative with “attendance capacities” but that will loosen. The biggest question is gonna be “who is willing to tour?” Inevitably some markets & venues won’t be able to open or will have attendance caps. This may make some tours “Not Profitable” and limit which bands hit the road. If Dead & Co can’t play “The I-95 Corridor” they won’t go out, etc... That benefits Red Rocks cause they don’t schedule “Top 40” acts. The smaller bands with great followings who operate outside the Live Nation realm of influence will be the pioneers of post COVID touring & Colorado will be their “Eden”.

So expense is risk, and if you incur expenses touring with risks of cancellations, low attendance out of fear, low attendance out of size limits, and sudden swings in the pandemic, it may be safer to set up a few big shows. Look for a lot of shed shows. Tours also put the band and crew more at risk of the virus, I'd think.

Totally agree, that’s why I think we’ll get multiple Single Day Events, with multiple same genre bands. Mini festivals without camping, camping is outta the picture I think for another summer. Maybe these events are mike mini tours too, that have the same lineup in a few markets, that if needed can shift to a more drive in friendly venue if needed. Not big sheds or Corporate Venues, but more field shows & the like. Worst case, I bet we see everybody doing drive in shows in the parking lots at the Big Sheds.

If the sheds are hurting for business (ya think?) they may open up to smaller crowds. 1500 people can spread out in them and it won't cost more to open with a smaller number (unlike an inside venue with HVAC).

BTW, I know some of you can’t stand DMB, but the band and their foundation (Bama Works) have donated a bunch of money to help set up a large vaccine dispensing center in Charlottesville in conjunction with the local health department.

I'm thinking he does one last run and then announces he's only playing limited shows at Terrapin.
Why not alternating nights of The Q and D&C as headliners? - I'm Hondo and I support this message.

It maybe suggests that less than total herd immunity coupled with a masking requirement might be enough to green light some events, at least from an epidemiology perspective.

I saw today where Faucci said that large concerts should be able to return in the Fall if vaccination numbers meet their goals & there’s no unforeseen events. I agree with this, I think summer will be hit & miss depending on your market. May not be any huge tours but there’ll be something to act as a tester for the Fall. I just wonder how crazy it’ll be to get tickets to things & what they’ll cost.

As the concert and live events industry remains on hiatus heading into 2021, music fans around the country continue to wait for the magical day when music venues and festivals reopen for business. According to the United States’ top health expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, that moment could arrive by later this year if everything goes to plan (fingers crossed).
Fauci took part in a virtual conference hosted by the Association of Performing Arts Professionals over the weekend, where he was quoted as saying, “If everything goes right, [concerts] is will [return] some time in the fall of 2021. So that by the time we get to the early to mid-fall, you can have people feeling safe performing onstage as well as people in the audience … I think you can then start getting back to almost full capacity of seating. We’ll be back in the theaters — performers will be performing, audiences will be enjoying it. It will happen.”

At some point live music will be back, but it’s going to be longer than we all hope since a large portion of people still refuse to take this seriously or think that they live in some kind of vacuum where their actions don’t affect others.
As for moving the goalposts, every day brings something new and opinions keep changing. I’m not paying attention to commentary about 2 weeks from now, let alone 9 months.
