Atlanta's Midtown Music Festival was cancelled by Live Nation because the state government said it could not allow the promoters to ban guns on site, because it is a public space. This would not apply to a "private" venue like a stadium or arena--or farm. But there are a lot of good events being held at public parks, which now may be at risk IMO.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Interesting that the line-up does not seem to entice a crowd that might be trouble in this regard. I bet the person who complained and caused this wasn't even going--just wanted to "ruin it for everybody."
I know that as of a few years ago, the "industry" started to have very real concerns about security and safety from violence at events, sometimes apparent to the public and more often not. The top dogs are risk adverse,at least to anything they can't insure over. I'll be interested to learn more about this issue when I can.

I think it’ll definitely lead to a swift move away from having events on public lands in states sympathetic to “conceal & carry” laws. However most festival sites, Lockn, Bonnaroo, Suwannee, I’m not sure about Coachella, The Double JJ, Legends Valley, etc… are all on private property and can therefore deny entry to or prohibit the carrying of firearms into or onto property. As for security, it may lead to your vehicle being searched much more thoroughly upon entry to festivals that allow camping.
As a rule of thumb, I feel anyplace that encourages, serves or allows alcohol, stimulants, downers, LSD, nitrous etc… and where people operate on little to no sleep in cramped quarters with total strangers under extreme heat that… that venue or event should not allow firearms on site. The chance of a situation turning from bad to deadly is just too high. I think this example is best seen in the frontier cattle towns of 150 years ago. They couldn’t let cowboys come into town party, fuck whores & fight with their gunbelts on. They had to leave that shit at the edge of town, as you should have to do at a festival/concert/bar today.
I agree to that the person or group that brought the suit to court probably isn’t interested in the concert but rather exploiting the opportunity to challenge the law and carve out a broader meaner than it was intended for, that’s just politics and assholes trying to stir the pot. Until the powers that be value life more the freedom, freedoms will always win in this country. Carrying a gun into a public place like a church, a party or a concert used to violate the “social contract” we all took with each other but today that contract doesn’t exist, there is no engagement with our communities to create a connection or love for each other. We went from “being in this together, forever” to “every man for himself” and to tribalism. Nothing is less American than that.

Red Rocks is owned by the City of Denver. The article you quoted earlier said the court made a distinction between public land where there’s an established lease and one that’s more of a “one off” like the Atlanta Festival. Red Rocks would be like the example the court cited that said if the lease of public lands is continuous then they have the right to enact prohibitions whereas a one off event can not. That would probably set a legal precedent that would hold. Now the Gorge, I’m not sure about it’s ownership status. I guess the move to make or the work around for this is for promoters to move all their events to tribal lands on reservations where neither federal or state law apply. Raging on The Plains of The Pawnee sounds like a festival coming to a town near you soon.

there are already restrictions under ABC laws regarding carrying guns in establishments that serve alcohol, so that may be the route to control things.

If Kid Rock can play Sturgis without incident then, I’m sure there’s a model out there to follow & keep people safe. Lol. I’d say local alcohol sales laws will be a big factor but they obviously didn’t matter in Atlanta. I’d say it’s just gonna lead to fewer events like that.
