I'm not saying I like what's going on there, but generally the gate goes to the artist, and the concessions and "fees" to the venue. Merch swings in the middle--as seen here. The artist might keep in mind that almost all of the merch sales at a show would not occur if they weren't at the show; no one comes to buy a T-shirt he can buy on line. I bet most of the sales are impulse sales--I have a few in my drawer!

I think Lockn' collects a sales percentage. But some of my smaller venue have the artist staffing the merch and I don't think there is a cut. I would not expect that at a big venue. I might start asking, out of curiosity.

A tip jar is how to support the artist directly.

ALso beware the benefit "proceeds go to save the snail darter" shows since the term "proceeds" can mean anything. I suspect the beer slingers at the VaB Amphitheatre raising money for the baseball jerseys are getting a pittance.

True. It would be one thing if these revenues stayed at the performance center to support operations and access and to keep admission costs down. The fact that Wolftrap runs on donations and capital campaigns like a public facility makes it even more unpalatable. Livenation will probably claim they put the money back in but I'm not buying it.
